Self shadowing?

Are the models self shadowing or should i continue painting shadows on the map?

You mean if you drop a prop in to a HL2 map will it shadow properly?
The answer to this is (in theory) yes...although you could have more easily found out by usage of Google or VERC.
 
Without any specific knowledge, no, I doubt HL2 will have self shadowing. It´s something that has to be turned on by a mod in Doom 3. Just too fancy.
 
There has been rumors of self shadowing in Source.. But you should still have some shadowing on your textures as any realtime lighting/shadowing wont cover the shadows for everthing, just the basic overall one. So for small details to show more you'd need to paint them in either way, just so they'd look better.
 
Humm.. by shadow properly I was meaning "put a nice, real looking shadow on ground".
Self-shadowing....Does it put shadows on itself?
I have no idea on this one so I'll leave it to teh leetie other people.
