Selling programs illegally

This classmate in my calculus 3 is selling the math program for $10. I got pissed that he was ripping people off and the password dun even work....I think its wrong to sell programs that is not urs.... but on the other hand, i too illegally downloaded this program, but i gave it for free to my friends who needed them.

What are your opinions?

Selling pirated software to classmates is a nice thing to do. It gives them the software they need for a much much lower price and clearly they don't know how to d/l it themselves. However selling software that doesnt work makes you an asshat. Kick his ass.

Im sorry, im kinda sad right now because i cant do my math homework which requires the program... i have to go to school at 6:30 am to finish it otherwise it becomes late work...

If I ever find myself in contact with a less than legitimate program( which is never :shh, I never give it to friends and ESPECIALLY not sell it to them. You want to keep yourself as far away from that illegal stuff as possible. For every friend you give/sell it to, there's one more link they can track you by.

I'm serious. Getting caught with that stuff is like, game over. Seriously. You're either spending a chunk of your life in jail, or you and possibly your family depending on the situation(responsibilities) will have to file for bankruptcy. Quite possibly both.

The amount of money they pay lawyers for that stuff is just... wow. Can't go your entire life thinking they'll never find you.

You really have no idea how widespread this is do you? I go to a school for computer animation, and if anyone needs maya, or 3dsmax or any program at all, you just ask a classmate. Someone in the room WILL have it and burn you a copy. If the companys gave a damn they could arrest our entire school, and probably 60% of the staff. The cost, and time it would take to take people to court is way too much for them to feel like dishing out. They may do it once in awhile to make an example out of that person... but the chances of that happening is like 1 in 10 million.

But the thing is, that if we ever wanted to produce something commercially most people here would buy it. The bottom line is as long as you arnt making money off of it, the company doesnt care. In fact, they are building their consumer base by letting people get used to and learn their program. If I have used photoshop illegally for 5 years, then decide to go professional with image editing or something... what program do you think I would buy?
