Why is my 2200+ Sempron being detected in BIOS (on a motherboard that supports the Sempron) as a Athelon XP 950mHz :| ?

I know there is a switch you have to move on the mobo, I've done that, and both ways produce the same result :x

Any ideas?

In the bios (generally hit Delete right after you turn your PC on), what does it say the FSB is set to?
It should be 166 or 333 (same thing).

Little math here.
950Mhz / 100 (assumed FSB right now) = 9.5
That CPU probably has a multiplyer of 9.5

9.5*166=1.6GHz is probably where it should be.

Also my other mate needed to update (flash) his BIOS due to incompatibility, although that might be completely irrelevant to your situation

I'll try the trick Asus suggested - didn't think I'd need to change FSB.

Ty unreal, but this mobo works great with them apparently :)

some mobo's (not very many) have jumper settings for the fsb speed.

It's in the BIOS - lol the FSB speed should be 333 - but it's set to 100 :|

:D

Yay! You found the issue then.

Semprons FSB is MHz x2 so...
100MHz = 200FSB
133MHz = 266FSB
166MHz = 333FSB
200MHz = 400FSB

If it's set to 100MHz right now then there won't be a setting for 333 but there will be one for 166, which is the correct setting. FYI
It's going by actual MHz and not FSB rating for the setting then.
