Sen. Specter is one of the GOP senators that voted with the Democrats (whether or not he was coerced into doing so) to approve the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

WASHINGTON - Veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter announced Tuesday that he is switching parties, a move would give Democrats a filibuster-proof 60 seats if Al Franken is seated in the Minnesota race.

"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," the Pennsylvania senator said in a statement.

"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans," Specter said, adding that the "change in party affiliation does not mean that I will be a party-line voter any more for the Democrats that I have been for the Republicans."

Kinda cringe-worthy considering he issued an absolute statement declaring that he would not make such a switch.

In March, Specter issued a statement saying there is no way he would switch parties.

"To eliminate any doubt, I am a Republican, and I am running for reelection in 2010 as a Republican on the Republican ticket," he said at the time.

They're sending in an infiltrator. A saboteur.

Eyes peeled, Democrats.

The Republican Party could crumble just as quick. In fact with these huge bailouts, there could be billions spent on propping up the Democratic party even more. Think about it, one $700 Billion blank check gets sent to hundreds of cities and towns/various people, any one of those corrupt mayors could take half the money and work on their city, the other could be used to buy in specific votes from the electoral college for the Democratic Party and it would be a winfall yet again. What if there was an 80% Democratic domination in both the House and the Senate. The Republican Party could be crippled for decades imo

I never really was on your side.

I voted all Democrat this past election, but I told my friend as we were voting, it only has a direct effect at the local level. A lot of times now your vote doesn't even affect your representative because they sometimes vote the other way and you're sitting there like WTF man??

In counter-strike, he would be called a "winning-team-joiner."

If the Republican party falls apart, it's be because of an exodus to the Libertarian Party, not because the country doesn't agree with them anymore. There's great potential for a major libertarian party. Every politically apathetic person supports half their policies by default.

That's me right there, baby.

And no, the guy has been a LONG TIME democrat. He says his philosophy lies more in line with the democratic party now, and so he is switching. There's nothing dishonest about that.

I never cared for the guy... since he was the lead-investigator for the Warren Commission, which came-to the implausible conclusion that JFK was killed by one shooter. -Oswald.

He was.

Get over it.
