I bought a new computer. I have been wanting to build a new one for about a year and when i heard about hl2 i knew it was time.

Blah blah disc drives harddrives etc...

I didn't buy a new computer. I didn't do anything special. I'm using my ancient 333MHz Compaq to write this though, because I reformatted my hard drive so that everything will be clean and sparkly for HL2.

I bought a 9600 Pro. Might get more RAM (1024 from 512) but thats mainly for rendering, not gaming.

For the most part. I think i am going to RMA my video card in hopes of getting a replacement that will softmod. I might wait a bit and just get what ever comes next in the mid range level.

im getting 512ddr, but i hope i get another $90 before hl2, because i dont want to have 1 single 512 stick.

built a new one.

I'm scared that the mobo wont fit in my case, and the power supply scared me with all them wires, is there a site with a tut on putting in a new mobo safely ?

^^Ah I know exactly what you mean. The power supply wires freaked me out for a long time but when I built my first system I realized theres nothing to it. Theres plenty of sites that tell you all about building PC's just search in google.

Yea i belive that - they seems to have release dates right all the time including delayed games. And its obvious valve are delaying it, or they wouldnt answer every email asking the release date with no comment, after they already announced it to be 30th of sept previously.

WTF? Its a matter of personal preference and just because everyone thinks the 9800pro is better doesn't mean shit. Personally I think the FX5900 Ultra is better.

Only had to upgrade 2 things:

256 MB DDR Ram = 512 Ram total
Radeon 9800 Pro 128 Mb = Replaces GeForce 4 MX 440-SE

Still have to get the card though.

actually by now, its not even full opinion anymore. Its a word i like to call faction.

What it means is this - The 9800pro is better by fact, but some people might still think that the 5900u is the best, even though its not.

You know, its my special word.

^^Then by all means "prove" to me that the 9800 Pro is the better card in every aspect.

He didnt say evey aspect. Each card does better in some things then others. In the end the 9800 is on top. Try doing a search on google, for "9800 pro vs. FX5900" or somethng.:dozey:

yea, its been flamed too much. Though i will give props to the 5900u for having higher clock speeds

The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is up to 15% faster at higher resolutions. At resolutions 1024x768 and lower, the cards are pretty much the same. IT HAS BEEN TESTED AND BENCHMARKED OVER AND OVER AGAIN, AND THE ATI ALWAYS (or doesnt sometimes because of the nVidia driver cheats) COMES OUT ON TOP. I don't want to start a flame war, but even CGW said that they perfer the new ATI card, and personally I think they are nVidia/Intel biased.

You can't go wrong with either card, but the fact is that the Radeon 9800 Pro is 100 dollars cheaper, has better image quality (16x AF and no sign of driver cheats), and is still faster than the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra. End of story.

Go search on google if you don't believe me, but just don't go to Tom's Hardware. Tom is a nVidia suckup.

[Hunter]Ridic: Clock speeds do not mean everything, altough I do agree that ATI should up that ante on the 9900 Pro which is supposed to come out near September/October with HL2.
