What would you prefer in the future? sequels to current game franchises or Intellectual property (totally new franchise)?

it really depends on what the IP is to begin with. Like, if they were to decide to make another mary-kate and ashley game, obviously not, but if they were to make another sequel to doom, i'd be all for it.

It depends on the game, we all know or rather think that hl2 will be good but look at deus ex 2. It all depends.

IP all the way. I'd rather have a new IP from Valve than have HL2. The same thing goes with ID and Doom 3.

IP's are the only way that the gaming business can continue. Mind you, fresh ideas are becoming hard to find, but new franchises provide something different. It's that difference that keeps us interested in games and gaming.

Great IP's lead to Sequels.

I've never heard of an IP before. why do they call it intellectual property?
seems weird to me.

I think constant sequel after sequel after sequel gets kind of old after awhile. The best way IMO is to develop totally new concepts and then every so often, when the technology makes huge improvements, then go and take us back to our favorite franchises. I think iD did this perfectly with Doom. People wouldn't be nearly as excited for Doom 3 if it was actually Doom 24 or something. It's important to get a good balance of both and to develop sequels in moderation.

Indeed, playing a new doom and half-life installment after 10 and 6 years respectively really will be much more exciting.

I like sequels which come after many years - the zelda games have attracted me twice in this manner, once with OOT which dazzled and wind waker with it's vibrant makeover after another 5 years. MM and maybe the new upcoming zelda game won't be as remembered as those two.

Exactly. MM was just sort of a rehash of OOT with new features. It wasn't as impressive in creating that sense of excitement the way OOT did because the jump from the SNES Zelda to OOT was much more impressive and new when compared to the jump from OOT to MM.
