Serious GFX Problem

I have a pretty bad problem after playing CSS recently.
I was playing through and suddenly CSS stopped. And I heard the windows error message, my game hung for a minute and I rebooted.
Imagine my surprise when after I rebooted, all my PC would display was the cursor. the screen was black save for the pointer. Events were occuring in the backgound, the windows noise, the sound of a few programs loading, my flatbed turns itself on as per normal.
I can now only run in safe mode, meaning I can't play games, or listen to music :frown: plus the interlacing is giving me a headache.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem? I have the latest mobo, graphics and sound drivers, XP is also patched up to date as is CSS. Thanks in advance.

PC specs:-
Windows XP Pro SP2
Old VIA mobo (possibly KT400)
Athlon XP2000+
2x 256 generic RAM
Radeon 9200SE Sapphire
SB Live! 5.1

Yeah, it boots if I use the /safeboot command (with netoworking so I can use the net) but /safeboot is all it will run in. It will not even work with the /basevideo (VGA mode) command.
