Ok this is not to be turned into a religous debate, please, just don't. But I have a question, and even though I believe in God, this question kind of bugs me. Okay here goes.

The Christian religion states that Jesus was the King of the Jews right? Now, if Jesus was jewish, even by christian standards, why would we be christian? I mean if our goal was to follow in Jesus' footsteps and worship God, shouldn't we be jewish?

Can someone clear this up for me, i'm not the most religously educated person so I could use some help, :)

(someone correct me if i am wrong on this)

Jesus wasnt accepted as the messiah of the Jews (I believe because he didnt fullfill the requirements..not sure on that though), so christianity broke away from it and became its own religion(err...sect). Oh and this is gonna end up being one big religious argument once someone comes in and starts barking.. :hmph: lets not guys..

I think that title king of jews was just a mock up by the romans who hated that little troublemaker..

/me comes in and starts barking. Then he starts to chase his own tail, and finally slumps down on the floor and starts chewing mchammers legs.

And yeah, mchammer seems to be right about this:)

I think it sort of boils down into whether or not you consider Jesus to be a divine being.

If you're a Christian, you basically believe that Jesus was essentially an incarnation of God himself. Jewish people don't buy into this notion, and consider Jesus to be merely human (albeit quite an amazing one).

Anyone else notice the forums are slowwwww tonight?
Opps..I do believe I hijacked the thread...

Jesus wasn't the king of jews... Wasn't he the King of Kings?
Jesus was Jewish but he had different followers. He goes a seperate way than Judiasm.
In Judiasm, they believe in Moses & etc..., he had connections to God
In Christianity, they believe in Jesus
So kinda like what DarkStar said.

Historical research now says that Jesus probably was a guru that preached the Jewish faith to gentiles. In his opinion the faith was for everyone, not just for those that are jew by birth. That view didn't go well in the Jewish community off course and some sort of civil war ensued between the pro-Roman jews and the Christian 'terrorists' (by lack of a better word; they were called Zealots at the time). Jesus wasn't very happy with that coz he was preaching a hippy-like mantra of peace, love and happiness. The Romans though didn't really care; they were confronted with an uprising in their colony and wanted to crush it. All they knew was that a guy called Jesus was leading the uprising so they decided to crucify him. The ruler of the colony at the time, Pontius Pilatus, was a smart man that didn't want anymore troubles, so he gave the jews a choice between crucifying Jesus and a well known criminal (you don't want to kill a very popular person and create a martyr, do you?). The jews chose Jesus. On the cross was a little plate with the abbreviation INRI, which translates into Jesus the Nazarian, King of the Jews.

A little sidenote though: according to the Quran Jesus didn't die on the cross. His allies found a stand-in, Simon the Zealot, so Jesus could escape. Good reading on this subject is The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail by Baigent, Leigh and Lincoln. This book states Jesus fled to the south of France together with Maria Magdalen whom he married. They f***cked like rabbits, raised rugrats and the decendants of those rugrats are still among us today. Some of them are members of the royal houses in Europe.

It's Jesus not Jezus.
