From the latest update at www.croteam.com, here is a quote that caught my eye.

"Fluid Entity
We got it. Default parameters are for water (H2O), but by changing density and damping, everybody can make hers favourite fluid"

It doesnt seem like a completely basic usage, density and damping alone sound promising.

Holy shit! If they actually make *REAL* realtime, realistic water physics, then OH MY GOD CROTEAM CAN CODE!

they didnt, thats not really possible right now... to many factors go into it to many calculations for todays hardware. all this means (I think) is liquid thickness and other basic properties

It doesn't mean they have real liquids, it just means you can change the density and stuff of the water. I think this is possible for all games who do things like buoyancy. It will change the way an objects sinks and floats.

Not all games, just games with a physics engine. Hl2 has boyency and density, as well as mass of objects and friction.

You could call the water in HL2 a water entity too, as Valve have often stated they work with a material system that gives an object certain properties when you assign a material to it. Replace 'material' with 'entity' and you probably have the kind of water entity they're talking about.

All guesswork of course.

Man this is great news then, SS always been one of my best games,

what is meant by realtime water in SS2 ?

thanks alot PvtRyan

If there's anythign liike those headless bombers I'm happy.

"Eeuughhhrr!"
Bang!
"Eeuughhrr yourself! Hey, what's that coming over the hill? Holy shit!"

Actually somone managed a non realistic (but nice looking) simulation in real time, in 2d, that could be converted to 3d pretty easily. The technolodgy for this is just round the corner, Some developers have been hinting that there next gen engines will have it along with fully destructable scenery that actually looks nice, unlike soldner or Red Faction.

However when i say next gen I mean UE3.0 era and the developer of such an engine would have to sacrifice graphics to accomodate fluid dynamics.
