I can't play on any server now, my ping is constantly low (30-40) but i keep getting a very bad stuttering effect, like lag, but my ping is unaffected. I don't know what it is, it's only just started this bad today (before it was a jerk once every minute or so, now it is unbearable)

CB l Para pointed out uninstalling zonealarm helped him. I can't bring myself to actually uninstal, so I just turn it off. My game is significantly smoother without the firewall up. That plus a couple of other tweaks (cl_lagcompensation 1 , cl_lagcomp_errorcheck 1 ) and I'm runny fairly reasonably.

turning the firewall off cuts my choke and the 2 commands seem to massively help bullet registration, I still get the odd stutter but this is down to server and rates being just off, knocking my rates a bit lower if I get choke build up usually sorts matters.

Incidentally cl_smooth 0 turns off compensation for other peoples lost packets and choke which may help your bandwidth spikes but in reality leaves people skipping in front of you (ie you see laggers bungee as they move)

So the stutter lag you refer to (atleast in my case) is due in part from server problems, problems with your own rates and problems with other people "lagging" there will be problems with this side until people start to sort out what rates are best for them, servers are optimized. The stutter lag was also caused by something running on the comp, either using the bandwidth or using precious clock cycles.

By sorting out whatever else on your comp is causing some lag, you will be able to modify your config to rectify the rest of the lag.

My system hog seemed to be zonealarm (ie start with your firewall), yours may be another program/service hogging resources.....or something else entirely(!). All you can do is find out whats running and methodically eradicate every possible cause.

Beyond that all we can do is let valve know our findings and hope they find workarounds or post solutions.

Good luck :)

does cl_smooth 0 work for u guys?? and those commands u said work also?
