Hi guys, girls

i have been reading all kind's off information about the hardware guids for hl2.
But nowhere on the internet there is a anwser for my question.
and that is.

how many hardware does a server needs ?

i'm running 6 servers right now for the games community.
and i need to know are there hardware changes for the server as well ?

because in the old hl1 the only thing your server sends is X,Y,Z
but in the new hl2 there are objects as wel.
so the object needs to be send to all client's ?

correct me if i'm rong.
greetz,

ps: yeah i know crappy englishe :)

Not to bad on the english.

Thats a good question. I too would like to know the answer to that question.

when 'objects' are sent over the internet or network, they are first serialized. this means that they're still x y z etc, so no, you don't have to upgrade your network.

hl2 servers will be alot more cpu intensive... so you'll probably need to upgrade from hl1 servers.

you might want to start looking at 64bit cpus.
October 27 they prices go down for the presscotts, and in feburary they drop even more.

I or let's say my team is already upgrading the servers.

at the moment we run 2 cs services on 1 server
specs are

pentium 3 733
512 MB

we are going to upgrade the boxes with a amd 2400+ and 1024 MB
is this enough ?
and are there links or mails from valve where they say how many you need ?

i understand that the objects are first be serialized and then send with x,y,z
but the problem is that every object is going to be send.
so when i shoot a car
the car sends y,x,z that it's been shot
the model sends x,y,z as wel
this are 2 cordinats beeing send and in hl1 there where only one object send.

so i hope you guys can help me :)

tnx for the reply's

Im guessing a 2400+ with 1024 megs of ram should be plenty for a 32 person dedicated server as long as its configured right.

To be honest I dont know alot about gaming servers, so dont take my word for it.

Server Testing

Probably a very daft question, but do we know if there is any chance of getting hold of a server BETA as I own a GSP and would like to know what my systems can run.

Thank You

We have a AMD 2000+ MP setup in a U1 case and had these servers all running on it just a while ago: 2 x 20ppl public CS servers,1 priv cs server,1 20ppl public DoD server,1 20ppl public NS server. Not all full at the same time though but it handled well with no lag. Should give you an idea of how a 2400+ MP system will run.
