chromosomes and female superiority? by NeptuneUK

in reference to XX and XY chromosomes that determine sex in the human body.

have you ever heard a female biology teacher say "women have the XX chromosomes and men have the XY chromosomes, the X chromosomes are larger than the Y chromosomes so females are better because they have more DNA"

I decided to investigate this statement. upon some reasearch i found out that the statement is basicly true. women DO have more DNA than men! the two X chromosomes are larger and therefore contain more DNA than the X chromosome and its puny Y. BUT, the two X chromosomes in female DNA contain identical genetic information and only one X chromosome in the XX is active. The males have the same X chromosome and a little Y one too. they have a little extra DNA.

conclusions
females have more DNA than males.
the female XX chromosomes are identical
males have more active chromosomes (the little Y)
females have no superiority in contrast to men when it comes to genetic make up.
men are in no way at a disadvantage to women,women are in no way at a disadvantage to men in accordance to genetic make up.
 
No, only the Y chromosome is compressed. It can be extracted to have the same amount of DNA as the X.

On a more serious note: I did learn about this in biology, I'm trying to remember the details...
 
Why would having more DNA make someone 'better'?

But anyway, like you said, one X is switched off, so it's irrelevant; and in a sense it's a disadvantage because each cell switches off one of its X's at random, which can lead to interesting biological complications. That's why tortoiseshell cats are always female.

We were told that the entire male gender was brought about by foreign dna. Who knows?

Anyway, the Y chromosome is small, but isn't it possible that all the dna for 'maleness' is in the other 44 chromosomes and females need a larger X to countermand it?
 
Because of the Y-chromosome men are actually disadvantaged. One simple example: colour-blindness. Men have this condition more than women because eye-sight is regulated on the chromosomes that define sex.
 
Maybe that's why females are so deep and annoyingly emotional.
 
"Better" is a completely relative term. It's already been proven men are stronger, women live longer, and men are better in stuff like spatial awareness and women with organization (i.e. how can 5 people's luggage best fit into a trunk). There's more connections between women’s left and right side's of the brain, which is why they are better at multitasking ('they' say), plus they're generally more aware of their emotional states. Women, speaking of sex, have the better orgasm and are able to have them in succession (the only limiting factor being exhaustion). Seriously though, they GROW people INSIDE of themselves, and on top of all that, they just look hot.

So, where is the poll?
 
Tetrachromats are pretty much exclusively women too. Looks like the little X gets all the luck.

Neither sex is disadvantaged, that's just the way the species has evolved and it seems to be working.

Behind 'you' there needs to be another 'are'.

However I remember my Biology Teacher telling us that males are getting a much larger does of Oestrogen then they should be.

Apparently the main source of this. Tap Water.....

As for XXY chromosomes.. they will eventually dominate all life. Apart from me. I am un-dominatable.

If you look at it in broad terms, yup, but at a personal level there's so much static - from genetics down to upbringing - that the generalisation simply doesn't apply with any credence.
