Hey guys, I really want to become better at drawing humans/shading so I decided to look at a reference of a hand and draw it in photoshop. I did not trace or anything, simply had the one picture up on the screen to use as reference. Sorry if the geometry isn't exact, but i had to use my mouse. I reallllly need to get a tablet. Let me know how it looks... the one on the left is mine :)

by the way, this is my first attempt at drawing humans in photoshop as i normally just dont even attempt them since they are so hard. so be easy on me!:p

that really looks good!
the edges are off though... they should be smoothed out..besides that  :cheese: :dozey: :bounce: :afro:

Thanks! yeah, I couldn't keep my mouse steady enough to make the edges look good, and if i tried to cut around them with something else it just looked toooo straight, so I guess its time to get a pad. Any ideas on something nice I could get for say $60 or less?

nice, i like it. Tone all seems to be in the right place, my next suggestion is to try your own hand, will be much harder to get it looking like it does in real life.

Using a mouse to paint is really hard.
I've been thinking about getting a tablet too, apparently the bigger the better; i'm not sure if you'll be able to get anything really good for under $60, i dont know any US stores that sells them, but ebay has a few.

If you find any good tutorials for digital painting please post them :)
oh and if you dont go there already, check out www.conceptart.org/forums for inspiration.

switch.

get any wacom that is pressure sensitive.. they are the top of the tablet market :)

wacoms are too expensive :(

ill start a new thread about this

If you're really serious about learning to draw human anatomy, start with a pencil, paper, and a live person, (an anatomy book is good too). Start basic - don't worry about attempting color at first (that's a whole other ballgame), just work on perspective, foreshortening, shading. Work in grayscale, if you happen to get a Wacom tablet. You will learn much more about value, and what creates the illusion of depth, if you start monochromatic. Hope some of this helps.

well it depends on how u made that did u study the shape and shading and then do it by urself?

Next time, dont just redraw it. But try to understand with the help of a anatomy book, the underleying bone and muscle structure. It will really help making the hand more believable. GoodLuck
