Interesting read. I personally had a hard time understanding the translated version - did it say it used the final 1.2 patch from Far Cry or the 1.2 patch given to review sites? I am think they were using the final 1.2 patch (the same patch that was recalled).

I wonder how much faster Far Cry can run if they would take the time to optimize the engine and PS instructions properly. :/
 
who honestly cares? do any of you plan on playing through fc again anyway? MAYBE the multiplayer...but even that needs work.

It's just a nice example for Graphic card optimizations, the only example for PS3.0 so far.
It's really too little too late for improving the game.
 
Very interesting... does the 6800 series support Shader 2b, or just 2 and 3?
 
Well, I would assume it does.
Both the 6800 and X800 have extended shader length among other things, it's just that Nvidia desided to add enough features to make it PS3.0 while ATI added a few things but held back on the features that used a lot of power.

The 6800 will use the PS3.0 path though. SM3.0's design was created with Nvidia's influence to match their hardware afterall. hehe

Dumb question. Is there a pre-recorded demo of Far Cry I can use for testing? I currently have 1.1 installed and I downloaded 1.2 but haven't installed it yet. I would like to do a FPS comparision.

I've got 4.7's installed. I'm having severe texture corruption with patch 1.2

See screenshot. I've got a couple more levels to run.

Here are my system specs

Athlon XP 2800+
1 GB of Ram
X800 Pro

Far Cry is run at 1280 by 1024 resolution. All details set to their maximums. With high AA and high AF (was set in-game).

Patch 1.2 is absolutely horrible. From these tests, I have had severe textures problems with outdoor levels and lighting issues with everything else. Far Cry is unplayable with Patch 1.2, in my opinion. :x

For performance details, see my attachment (it's in excel).

Basically, there is a very slight performance decrease. However, I did notice a performance increase as long as there were no texture or lighting corruption.
 
From that link I posted earlier you need build 8.041 or above.
4.7s were Build 6.458.

You might need to look for 4.8's to benefit at all.
