Shader error?

Hi, I've wandering around looking for a HL2 fourm that could help me all day...
I bought HL2, installed it, registered the CD key etc and when I tried to play it I got this error message on my computer.

Does anyone know how to fix it?
(I have a ATI 9600 SE and DirectX.c).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same msg using a radeon 9000 all in wonder. and have downloaded and installed the new ATI driver. let me know if you figure it out..

I'll have to try that. Perhaps it is just a bug and will be patched shortly.

Gah, i'd download the drivers; but they are way to big(I have crappy 56k). Is there soething wrong with my video card?

It seems a number of german CS players are having the same problem. I'm very puzzled...

I'm quite frustrated, does anyone know what I should do? I tried reinstalling the drivers that came with my card but that didn't change anything. Should I try to get on the Vavle tech support chat room?

I think I found a solution.
Please CLEAN completely your ATi drivers, install normal standard VGA and then reboot. After that, install LATEST ATi drivers (4.11) and reboot your PC. After that, check if Display Properties->Settings Tab->Advanced->Troubleshoot option is set to FULL HARDWARE ACCELERATION.
Sometimes that setting drops to none or low
This solved my problem. (I've just changed acceleration setting, but instructed you to reinstall drivers so you are sure everything is ok.)
That is driver setting problem, not Half Life 2.

Got this off the Sierria fourms. I don't have VGA, does anyone know where I could get it?
