Currently the water in HL2 only looks good when it's contained between straight walls c.q. in industrial settings. When it's contained in a natural settings with round and gulfing borders the border between riverside and the river just looks to sharp and not really good.

Does anyone think it will be possible to make it look better by f.e. using a shader of some kind? I wonder why Valve hasn't improved it.

I'd have normally just have laid overlays across the edges, or very thing animated textures of it lapping against the shore, like in farcry (only not automatic, mores the pity heh)

But if someone can come up with a working shader method, that would be neat :D:D:D

The problem is that all the actual DirectX code is contained in the engine. Which, of course, brings up the possibility of arbitrarily executing DirectX methods from the gamecode.
