Has anyone found out how to compile the the valve shaders .vcs files.
 
I know HL2 shaders are written in HLSL (High level shader language). HLSL is owned by Microsoft, so I would imagine you can compile them with Visual Studio .Net. I can't say for sure though.

I did find this while searching google for info on the subject. I don't know if it will benefit you at all or not.
 
Yeah I already know all about that. Source shaders are compiled as vcs shaders. I believe that stands for valve compiled shader. I saw something about compiling openGL shaders for a tron effect on the valve erc that have includes. I could look at that but I might get confused lol. I wonder why valve is making this so hard lol.
 
that tron effect tutorial was for hl1, if I remember correctly.
 
They are going to open the shaders up.

You can't get at them or add new shaders at the moment, but they will be opened soon enough.
