A coworked was talking about this game last night so I came out and looked at reviews. This game looks amazing. I'm considering buying it before I retire the PS2. Any opinions on the game? Thanks!

You find 16 hidden bosses. You kill 16 bosses. Game over. That's pretty much it.

Words cannot come close to descibing the experience of playing this game. Its completely like nothing else you have ever played. Its incredible...and cheap now too!!! You have no excuse not to get it!!!!

Me and my friends just recently went through the whole game. I had never played it before and it was pretty kick ass. The only thing i didnt like was that there were ONLY the colossus's and no other enemys to fight. There is literally nothing else to do in the game.

Yeah except explore a vast and varied world that instills a greater sense of loneliness than ever I have felt in a game heretofore. Geez, it was pretty overwhelming at times...in a good way!:p

This game and Ico are almost reason enough on their own for me to buy a PS2. Don't hesitate - buy SotC (and Ico too).

SotC is such a cinematic experience. I was frequently awestruck in the middle of the colossus battles, galloping alongside a colossus and firing arrows at it while the screen shakes to its footsteps... HERE is a game where you can justifiably use the word 'epic'.

SUCH nice art direction too. I have never ever understood the people who say Ico and SotC are not graphically spectacular. SotC in particular is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.

In addition, both of these games have to be some of the best and yet quirkiest examples of storytelling in computer games. It makes no sense that games can have such a moving story when there are barely any interspersing cutscenes or dialogue at all.

I would get BOTH. Then play Ico first if you appreciate games where you can kind of sit back and soak up the atmos, or play SotC first if you want to get stuck into epic battles (although SotC still has tons of atmosphere). SotC looks a bit more impressive graphically so maybe you want to save the most overwhelming until last or something.

edit: weird that both me and VoS describe it as 'overwhelming'.

double edit: the cover art for the US version of Ico is AWFUL. Bad enough to seriously dent the game's imagery. Try to ignore it, or pick up a sweeter-looking import copy.

Really? We were just like "Gah, this is so boring". The actual fights were great though.

I found the explorational aspect of SotC to be as enjoyable as the battling. The whole idea behind the world just kind of hits me deeply on a level I can't really articulate. It's so immersive and thick with atmosphere that I find myself just looking at stuff I encounter and wondering 'who the hell could have made that bridge...?', 'what on earth did this place used to be...?' and so forth.

Great games.

It's hard to really experience SotC if your not alone, the loneliness just doesn't really have an impact if your with a friend. Play it alone on an afternoon, somewhere remote.

You will think SotC's overworld is either

a) chilling, unique and memorable, or
b) empty and boring.

Which one depends on how susceptible you are to atmosphere in games.

If you're one of those gamers who can suss out the most efficient route through REmake's mansion, and bulldoze through that game's corridors without batting an eyelid... it's likely that you won't see the point of the exploration in SotC.

On the other hand, if you're the sort of person who often goes on imaginative tangents and will explore for exploration's sake... you'll probably fall in love with SotC's world.

Either way, the fights are spectacular, so buy it anyway :)

I wish they had made this game on the PS3.. i can only imagine what it would look like with the graphics it can produce. think they will make another 1?

I kinda want to get it, but I also kinda don't. I'm going to be busy with God of War (and most likely God of War 2 when it hits), that this just seems a bit weak in comparison.
The battles do however look impressive.

*points to sig*

yes agro FTW, the game really feels epic, you will be awestruck by the bosses, never have i felt so well, i dunno if i can say sad but kinda on defeating a foe in a game

the ending is quite moving too, wont spoil it but *sniffles*

Well I just ran to BestBuy and got it. I love games where you can explore. Sounds like I'll enjoy this.

Now if I could only find my damn memory card!!

I still haven't seen it in EB, GameTraders or any other shops.. or even at video stores to rent it.

Not a game everyone's gonna get into, but I found it vastly awesome.

Don't worry. Great as I've heard GoW is, one thing SotC just can't be described as is weak. Like all the previous posts say though, the effect the game world has on you does depend a bit upon the way you play games.

Also - seconded@what jimbo said. Feels weirdly sad to kill a colossus, esp since some don't even attack you overtly. And the game has a great ending which is like half an hour long.

God of War sucks.

Get this game, it is one of the best I have ever played. Each boss is epic, unique, and sometimes quite surprising (SPOILERSLOL/ like the tiger in the fire temple, that thing scared the crap out of me when it first came barreling at me /ENDSPOILERSLOL). And somehow,in a game that is totally epic from start to finish, they manage to make the final boss the most epic of all.

Similar to everyone else, I enjoy this game for many of the same reasons. Atmosphere, ridiculously epic battles, etc. In my personal experience, without using guides or anything, the time spent traveling to reach and defeat each colossi equaled about 40min - 1hour. Maybe I took my time or was just slow, but that really says something IMO. Get the game.

Not to mention the most OMG frustrating...

But that just makes beating him all the sweeter :bounce:

I actually didn't find him too challenging. It wasn't that confusing getting to him either. Maybe I'm just too super kewl & awesome?

Brilliant game. Definitely buy it. Its one of the most unique games to come out in the last few years.

Even if it looks like nothing new, it really is something special.

It's not weak, just ompletely different kinds of epic mate.

All I can say is get 'em all, they're definately some of the best games the PS2 has to offer and both will give you one helluva ride.

..h and watch the video in jimbo118's sig and you'll realize there's absolutely nothing 'weak' about SoTC.

It'll spoilz a few of the colossi for you though ;)

I've already watched a couple of the gamespot vids, and they look pretty cool but don't actually show how open the game can be.
I'll probably skip it unless I find it in a second hand bargain bin. I really like the sound of it though.

You're right, I forgot about that...

Doesn't matter how you get it, as long as you get it and play through it. Words alone don't really do this game justice, you need to experience it first hand. I have to say, this is one of the few games that has actually gotten a sense of emotion out of me.
