Sheild scaners, the scanners you see in the later parts of the game when back in the city, how the hell do you make them? adding an npc_sscanner does nothing. Any idea whatsoever?

Use npc_cscanner. Your compiled bsp must have the prefix of "d3_c17_" (for example d3_c17_mymap.bsp), and they will appear as shield scanners.

Wow, that's an incredibly bad way to do things.

Has anyone, or is nyone making any kind of mod that lets you put sscanners in normaly?

wow...you didnt have to go all out on him.... "Wow, that's an incredibly bad way to do things." i mean he took the time of anwsering your post, the least you could do is say something like, no im sorry that way dosent suit me... you should aplogize...or no cookies for you mr....

I wasnt going all out on him, sorry if ti came across that way.

I was going all out on valve for choosing such a crappy system to do things rather than making it a seperate entity.

And how do i change the skin? coding? may as well jsut make the whole sheild scanner in that case.

(i dont see a skin setting in hammer)

:E
No, you didn't come across as going all out on me.

"I apologize for not addressing this sooner, but I didn't work on that section of the game, so I had to do some digging to find out the answer. The shield scanners were added at the very end of the game development after the levels were content locked. Therefore the only solution was to hard-code any cscanners that appear in those levels to become shield scanners.
Any map with a name starting with "d3_c17" will have its npc_cscanner entities use the shieldscanner model.
Obviously this is not an optimal solution, but was the only one that could be made at the time. However, now that Half-Life 2 has been shipped, we will look at adding a new entity for the shield scanner in an update. I wish I had better news, but that's what it is for now." -- Jeff Lane (Valve)

the skin setting is in the properties for some entities. eg: I think the tree's you can change the skin to have them bare or with leaves. The resistance guys I think can be changed like that too, so possibly also works for scanners aswell. It's a longshot but its worth checking just incase.

Skin isn't in scanners, but owell, i'm glad a fix will come in an update, i can see why they did that if it was during code lockout, they should have thaught earlier though but anyways, poorly implementsed sheild scanners are better than no sheild scanners.
