I bought a GTX260 from a Korean company called EMTek Inc abot a month ago, and I loved it. It was huge, about 285mm? and had 3 fans and gigantic heat pipes and grills.

But today, I noticed that the third fan wasn't spinning, and it was making some very unpleasant noises. I haven't done anything like overclocking. The only thing I did was to update my graphic drivers, which I did after the problems started occuring.

So, dead fan? Or something else? I don't know. All I know is if it isn't solved by monday I'm going to take advantage of the 3 year warrenty.

Also, do fans die regulary? I mean, I don't want to have to get a new fan every few months or so. The manual says that I have a 6 month warrenty for "expandables" such as fans instead of the full 3 year a/s for the whole card.

Must be a faulty unit. Return it and get a new one.

Yeah, I should do that. But they might not have anything in stock; GTX260 chipsets are hard to procure right now, from what they say.

Meh, they'll prolly fix it and send it back then, or I'm gonna bomb them.

It's your government trying to stop you from posting on hl2.net.

Fans do fail a lot more often than solid state electronics on the actual card. But its not something that should fail all the time unless the manufacturer screwed up something, in your case it just sounds like you had some bad luck.

Thats what you get for buying Korean products. And no, fans arent supposed to die that quick. They're supposed to die right after your warranty runs out.

Does it look like there could be some dust or something in there? If you said there was a noise then maybe the bearing went out. If it's just dust you could use canned air (don't spray upside down) to get rid of dust under the fan or send it in under warranty.

Eh, I should have anticipated this then, considering my luck. :/

Ah go kiss Sony's ass you scurvy dog.

No, no dust. The third fan tries to spin at first, screams a bit, stops, and repeats the process.

I wish I was able to do something, I can't wait a week w/o my PC.

I would try to return it, but maybe you could take the opportunity to upgrade the fans. I'm not sure if that's possible, I've never tried it.

Stock fans are always loud and wimpy, and some don't last long.

Yeah, I looked through their site, and they had a whole collection of graphic card fans and heatsinks. Of course, changing them by yourself voids the warrenty, as typical of electronics manufacturers.

I'm also having trouble with my PC. I accidentally pressed Shift for 8 seconds (mainly because I have a bad cold) and I put on High Contrast on so now my folders look like this:
