apparently there was a large shooting spree in Fort Hood Texas, the shooter was shot dead and was in the army plus 2 others are being held

so far 12 dead and 31 wounded

(CNN) -- Eleven people plus a gunman were killed and 31 were wounded after the gunman opened fire at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday, a Fort Hood spokesman said.

The gunman was a soldier, and two other soldiers have been detained as suspects, said the spokesman, Lt. Gen. Bob Cone.

Cone said more than one shooter may have been involved.

President Obama called the shootings "tragic" and "a horrific outburst of violence." He expressed his condolences for the shooting victims.

Officials at Fort Hood, which is the Army's largest U.S. post, were asking people there to stay away from windows, CNN affiliate KXXV said. The incident took place at the sports dome, now known as the soldier readiness area, the station reported.

FBI agents are headed to the scene to assist, said Erik Vasys, spokesman for the FBI office in San Antonio. He had no other details.

On the Fort Hood Web site, the word "closed" is posted with the statement, "Effective immediately, Fort Hood is closed. Organizations/units are instructed to execute a 100 percent accountability of all personnel."

Fort Hood, with about 40,000 troops, is home to the Army's 1st Cavalry Division and elements of the 4th Infantry Division, as well as the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 13th Corps Support Command. It is located near Killeen, Texas.

At least 25,000 people are at Fort Hood on any given day, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon said.

Fort Hood is home to the Warrior Combat Stress Reset Program, which is designed to help soldiers overcome combat stress issues.

In June, Fort Hood's commander, Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, told CNN that he was trying to ease the kind of stresses soldiers face. He has pushed for soldiers working a day schedule to return home for dinner by 6 p.m., and required his personal authorization for anyone working weekends. At the time, two soldiers stationed there had committed suicide in 2009 -- a rate well below those of other posts.

Since it's only an apparent happening, I can laugh at it.

It's because of those violent video games.

12 casualties now, three perpetrators, one of'em killed(The gunman), other two arrested.

31 injured totally.

Damn video games! Jack Thompson was right!!! WE DIDNT LISTEN!!!

Good thing guns are legal to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Oh wait.

aparently a gunman is called Malik Nadal Hasan

One of the suspected gunmen has been identifed as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

I was quite surprised to hear this, Major indicates this is not some young recruit snapping, but someone who has served in the military for quite some time.

Oh, someone already posted that, my bad.

Hasan is definitely an middle eastern name, but Malik is more common in Africa.

Live by the sword... live a gooood long time!

aparently the source of the name was anonimous so some news are not confirming it,well thats what I read from other forums

Hmmm.

PTSD? Three guys going at once isn't common.
Terrorism? Al Qaeda may still be working on making it public they're responsible.
Criminal plot? Maybe.

Let's wait and see.

It is strange that three men would do it at once. Still, I think that by training millions of men (and women!) to kill, we're just asking for this sort of thing to happen.

lol i got banned off another forum connecting to this to the new MW game.

Just saw on the news they are searching for a possible 4th suspect.

If there are four guys involved in this, then there's no way this is a simple PTSD case gone bad or 'petty crime' IMO, it has to be something connected to some form of terrorism..

I never said petty crime. I said a criminal plot. It could very well have been a well-organized plot to steal something of great importance. The public is rarely given actual details on such things until days or weeks after the fact.

Let's wait and see what happens.

Seeing as how we work with School Districts pretty closely here at work, we learned of this relatively quickly. There were a few districts in the area that went into immediate lock down. We had to keep a close eye on the incoming calls, in case someone needed help from one of those districts. Pretty crazy reading about it.

Hope those wounded have a speedy recovery.

But how can you say it has to be terrorism? If he was a Major, he would have served his country for long enough that they'd know if he was a spy. Or least why the hell would a Terrorist group bother with getting a mole with only the rank of Major.

Well, some new info's come out, Major Malik Nadal Hasan has been confirmed as the killed shooter, he was a Mental Health Professional within the army, the name of the other three suspects and what their suspected involvement is has still not been disclosed.

And yes perhaps it was wrong to say it has to, but it just seems so weird to have a total of four people participate in this rampage/be involved in it.

The fact he was a mental health professional does shed some info on the subject though, seeing as it isn't at all entirely impossible it might have been current or former patients of his that are the other suspects, you'd be surprised how many mental health professionals that have been found manipulating their patients to participate in criminal acts.

We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

My point was also, Al-Qaeda have been known to be an organisation that doesn't 'rush' their attacks, they bide their time, plan a long LONG time ahead, that's why I said it might have been terrorism, afterall, al-Qaeda would love to damage the image of the US military, what would be better in doing so than having a bunch of US military personnel organize an attack on their own base and their own people?

No it's because of loli.

And those sick rape games in Japan.

Hey, I've played one of those sick rape games, and they're not sick! They promote a very healthy view towards women and rape, for example, in the game I played, if you raped a woman too many times without a condom, she could get pregnant and as a result, she'd throw you infront of the subway the next time you tried to rape her!

interesting thought. also someone brought up something on something secretive, maybe a new type of weapon or sensitive data was stolen. i'm sure they'll figure it out soon enough but its crazy this could happen on a military base of all places, you hardly hear of these incidents

Indeed, yet apparently in 2008 there were two killings at Fort Knox, in at least one of the cases it was a subordinate who shot his superior to death then commited suicide, not sure about the other one.

Oh shit, could be terrorism. Time to panic, yanks.

Your location...

Man your location just makes that comment perfect. I lol'd so hard at this. Brilliant.

I don't get it!:(

Is it funny because he comes from a divided island which was(for a time) ravaged by terrorism?

Attacking Islam in AAW
Let me make this clear:

Blanket, bigoted attacks on the religion of Islam will not be tolerated here any more than they will be tolerated against Christianity, Judaism or any other established religion.

While we understand that the enemy in the War on Terror is fanatical Islamic terrorists, not every Muslim can be described that way. Most are people just like every one of you, who just want to live, provide for their families and be left alone.

If you want to continue posting here, I'd suggest that you all remeber the distinctions between Islam and radical Islam. In spite of the prejudices and hate of some, there is a difference.

HOw many muslims will murder soldiers before something is done?

Well, you could declare Islam a political philosophy antithetical to democracy and the constitution like both communism and nazism were 3 decades ago and ban adherants from immigrating or becoming citizens.

sounds good to me..

Redefine islam as a non religion. Period.
America should lead the world.

I think it's time to Ban Islam in the US.

I think the time has come to keep certain last names out of the military.

If we could lock up the Japanese during World War II, I would think the least we could do is keep muslims out of the military until we are no longer fighting members of their religion.

Long AFTER world war 2 it was quite illegal for a follower of National Socialism or Communism to become a citizen. If someone went for naturalization and stated they were a follower of these philosophies, their application would be summarily denied.

Perhaps we should return to the common sense of those days.

This isn't like locking up Japanese in WW2 or keeping Germans out of the military in WW2. It's like keeping Nazis out of the military during WW2. The military make background checks to ensure people aren't involved with the Muslim sects that spawn terrorists and terrorism.

They should be kept in the military, to sweep up Chapels and work in the Chow Halls fixing pork ribs for the real troops.

These people are all around us. I speak of course of the unabashed bigots.

I don't get it!:(

"Was"

What do you mean, "was"?

IRA is still blowing up trashcans and trains.

And yes, that is why it's funny, because he's saying that we're sissies because of a single incident throwing us into a frenzy and he's from Northern Ireland.

Indeed, it has been confirmed however, that Malik was indeed a Muslim.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...-Malik-Hasan-said-Muslims-should-rise-up.html

"He said Muslims should stand up and fight the aggressor and that we should not be in the war in the first place." He said that Maj Hasan said he was "happy" when a US soldier was killed in an attack on a military recruitment centre in Arkansas in June. An American convert to Islam was accused of the shootings.

Racists and Islamophobes are gonna have a field-day with this one.

I myself am partly negatively tuned to Islamism, but that is mostly due to the fact that many muslims coming here to Sweden are not adapting to Swedish society, and maintaining their old culture of honorary murders of daughters etc for dating non-muslim boys and so forth.

I however, unlike other biggots, realize that there is still a substantial amount of muslims who manage to modernize and adapt to the modern world, becoming law-abiding productive members of society.

I'm negatively tuned to Islam myself, just like I am to Judaism, Christianity and Scientology(among other religions). But I'm still going to treat law abiding citizens who have done no evil like the citizens they are.

It's too bad they wont read the rest of the article, which describes some of the reasons that he had such views in the first place.

Press conference's being held, Malik is apparently alive(?), though not in stable condition.

Hopefully he pulls through so he can stand trial for his crimes.

Very true. I think that the issue With extremist Islam has a strong cultural aspect. There are many Muslims who are very "Western", "American" exe.

But the dangerous extremists not only follow a very violent perversion of Islam but they come from a culture of Honor Killings (killing of female family members for spending time with no-Muslims), even Female Genital Mutilation (I am NOT making this shit up)!

I don't think it was a terrorist attack. Its too much like other shootings in the U.S. I think this is a domestic shooting of some type. I don't know what the reasons for the attack are. It could be this guy was just fed up with the war (I heard that he was going to be sent to Afghanistan).

Don't believe the stuff you hear about hims "being glad" when Americans died in the war. If that were true he would have been under investigation a long time ago and would be at Git-mo right now *uses his sarcastic and bitter voice for the part about Git-mo* (the military is very tight on security)

I would like to offer condolences for those who were killed by the meaningless violence and the families who are hurting in the process. I hope they can get through this.
