Hey,

Im currently thinking of upgrading my graphics card. The rest of my system is about as good as its gonna get (2.4Ghz P4, 1.5Gb RAM).

I currently have an ATi Radeon 9600 256Mb. Im after another ATi card (seeing as my current one has served me well). I have around £100 to spend, £150 if i really HAVE to. I'll hopefully be selling the 9600 to get some extra cash

I dont like buying the most expensive, most awesome card, as its bound to be out of date in a year or so.

this is quite tempting, and is this one worth the extra?

You can get a plain x800 for 200 us $, i think that's within your budget. Then you can probably soft mod it to unlock the pipes or just overclock since it's a 110nm card.

I know you would like to stick to ati as your card has served you well, but you can pick up an nvidia 6600 GT for around 120 pounds. They out perform the 9800 pro by a decent margin, and also offer support for the latest generation of effects, Pixel Shader 3 etc. They offer the best bang per buck in their class tbh. Just my opinion, hope this is of some help to you,

This card is a particular bargain and one i would greatly recommend:

http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/components/graphicscards/productView.htm?quicklinx=3KQM

It is an Inno3d 6600GT rebranded as a dabs product. Exactly the same as any other 6600GT, just sold under a diff name, namely dabsvalue. Best price you will find for a 6600GT and a great card for the money.

thanks for the tip.

With these cards (the one you link to and the last one i linked to) what kind of performance can i expect from HL2 running at 1280x1024?

get a 6600 gt that card is great
and on hl2 i can run it on highest settings
and at 1280x1024 and 6x aa

What's within your budget? Performance can be so much different between different models, especially at 1280x1024.

i wouldnt reccomend upgrading from that card with such a small budget, you really wont get a worthwhile increase in performance. itll probably last you a few months until some better games come out and youll need a new one again. save another 75 pounds or more and go for something a little higher end, x800xt or 6800gt. i for one am 100% satisfied with my 6800gt.

the x800 is around his budget, and it's will give me a huge increase in performance, especially if he takes rivatuner and unlocks those other pipes.
