Prepare for a fully CGI Johnny 5 if this ever makes it to the theaters... Two remake announcements in the same day. Hollywood must be in big trouble.

The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films have acquired the rights to remake the 1986 family classic Short Circuit. Even the original creators, S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who created the characters and wrote both of the original movies, are back on board again writing the script for the remake. No director has been hired yet, but the producers do claim that it will at least be similar in its theme, with technological advances accounted for.

Seriously, they should just make it Short Circuit 3 if they're going to be changing the setting to the present.

Argh. The only potential upside is that the original guys are onboard. Even that might not be enough.

Why would they make him CGI, the original was awesome and worked perfectly. Perhaps it was expensive. But wouldn't CGI be even more expensive?

Answer: Because they make EVERYTHING CGI these days...

That sucks. What made the original amazing was that it wasn't done with CGI.
also the 80's monitors and the holographic map from the start was amazing. Seriously one of my favourite films of all time. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

I heard there not making him CGI there just using the skinless robot model from Terminator.

short ciurcuit was fun when i was 10.... i watched it recently and realised how shit it is...

Hollywood has stooped to a new low once again.
These ****ing remakes seem to be the only material they have left.
From British series remakes to shitty Japanese horror flicks and now they're ruining one classic after the other.
