Well my new laptop apparently has 2 HDD's according to my computer. I asked my friend and he said they're probably 2 different partitions so yeah. I'm wondering would it be worth it installing windows 7 on the other partition which has nothing in it. I don't have any recovery disks for vista so I don't want to lose any data on the first partition and I would need to have something like bootcamp as well. Do you think there is any risk losing any data on the first partition and do you know any good programs that work like bootcamp.

Boot camp is a Mac application. You dont need that or any sort of emulation to dual boot operating systems on a PC.

I'm gunna go ahead and say you shouldn't do it. Because, and I mean no offense by this, but it doesnt seem like you're familiar with computers, and you might screw something up.

If your not sure then don't do it. You should have got a Vista disk with your new laptop since you paid for a licence to use it. complain to the manufacturer cause if anything does go wrong and since we are talking about Windows it's always handy to have your OS disk. .

I would get it, but I can't be bothered with removing it and all the stuff when it runs out.

If you want a stable OS I'd wait until it's released.

Hi Mellish,

You should have received a copy of your original OS when you purchased your laptop. Since it seems like you may have misplaced the software I?d suggest checking this page for next steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246. It?s the Microsoft support site and can get you on the road to obtaining a recovery disc.

Also, dependant on the manufacturer of your laptop and when it was purchased, you may have recovery software located in a partition on your hard drive.

If you?re still looking to download and install the Windows 7 Beta, you are going to want to hurry. The program has almost filled the spots they have open for this round of testing. Go here for more info: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

Give those two things a check and let me know if I can point you toward any additional information.

Cheers,
Ron
