Hiya

I am due my new rig in mid 2006, but I am noticing I am falling behind with latest games due to my spec.

SO do I spend my £200 on a new cpu or a new gfx card.

I was toying with a a 6800gt to be honest given I have a 550watt psu in it right now should be okay, gonna post a desktop pic soon so you have a idea how big my tower is as it is a rather small one so I hope it fits.

Your computer is far better than mine now anyway (Can I have all your old parts? :p)
I would suggest a new Video card too. At the moment there's not much worth getting in the CPU department.

Thanks I may put the x700 pci-e up for sale on Ebay perhaps I dunno yet, this is the most powerful pc I have owned my last one was weak big time.

I do plan on a whole new rig this Summer should a few financial things work out for me mid this year.

get a 6800 GT over a GS every time.

[edit]For a little over £200 you can get a 7800 GT anyway..[/edit]

If you are going to upgrade it this soon then go for the 7800GT. No point in only going half way when some games stress even the 6800 cards (FEAR).

Yeah you should, an x800 is completely outdated, might I recommend 4 7800GTX 512Mb cards? That should be enough for 2 months. Then you can get 87 more. And your monitor? Complete shit, get yourself a nice 112" screen. I hate this idiot so much, he's never happy. "ehehehe check out my 30" monitor, my 20" wasn't big enough, so I had to blow money on an extra one." **** the hell off.

Do this

Your system is pretty balanced as it is.

My first thought was get a 7800gt and a 3800+ and possibly bump the ram up to 2GB.

No point in going with just a 7800gt or CPU upgrade (unless you plan on getting one later) as you would be bottlenecked.
