get a new mobo+cpu that is supposed to support my current hardware then slowly upgrade everything (Even though i have no idea what im doing?!?!) or make do with the pc i have.

AMD athlon XP 1600 (runs at 1.2ghz bleh)
2X 512mb DDR333 ram (it works i suppose)
KT4 ultra MS-6590 mobo
Geforce 4 mx 440 (ugh)

this PC is FAR too old for todays standards and i CANNOT afford a new pc (being a student n' all)

I was looking at getting this ASrock mobo with 2ghz 32bit athlon 3000+ sempron (comes with cooling sinc and fan) and just using my current hardware on it. http://www.sell-tec.co.uk/asrock.htm
THEN get a new graphics card.
THEN in the future get a 64bit athlon (it supports it woo!)

yeh but i dont know where the wires go :( thats the prob.

i can install graphics card, cpu, mobo memory blah blah all the easy stuff but theres the wires and cables and argh!

the mobo says it supports 754 AND 939

edit: i will get an athlon 64 3000+ mobo package. jus put a bit more money in. will work a charm

FYI any Socket 754 CPU will be a lot better than what you have now. If you wanted you could probably buy a lower priced AMD that runs on the Socket 754. Then maybe you could put some money towards improving that DX7 card. =p

the athlon 64 3000+ is er decent isnt it?

then i may get a GeForce 6600GT

I thought that the top end sempron was socket 754 and all the others were socket A?
