How do i stop the 3D background from loading up when I start Half-life 2? Also, where can I find a list of all those startup commands?

Go into Steam, right click on HL2 in the "play games" menu and click on properties.
In that window click on the "launch options" button. Type this line in:
Now whenever you start the game it will only load a background image (not a live map) and the console screen will be up as well. Just close the console screen and and do whatever you want.
Thats what I do and it shaves off a hell of alot of time loading the game.
