Just watched the first video. Seems very very lame.
I only played the demo of Silent Hill 3, and I liked it a lot.
But then, I also liked the movie

sums up the feelings really.
The music and sound effects are being done by the same guy who did the other silent hill games. That alone warrants a purchase. The music he creates can make any scene scary. I watched the videos and I still am optimistic. I hope the game turns out really well.
It looks pretty ropey to me - little better than a PS2 game. Really, why outsource something like Silent Hill?
Compare how promising it looked back in 2007:

I don't really see that big of a problem here honestly. It could end up like MGS4, if you look at early MGS4 trailers they weren't near as impressive as the final build shown in the last (new) trailer we got.It looks pretty ropey to me - little better than a PS2 game.

Isn't Valve doing the same with HL2? didn't they outsource someone else to do a different episode, but are overseeing it? Anyways I'm sure Konami is watching them closely, its their baby after all. Thats not to say I don't think the game looks iffy, it looks like they might just ruin the whole atmosphere with all the ****ing on screen indicators. I also hate that horror games in general have to take you out of the game to show you the spooky stuff with a movie, why not make silent hill have a more non-traditional narrative like HL. I thought thats what they meant when they said they were being inspired by American developers.:angry:Warbie said:Really, why outsource something like Silent Hill?

When is this game coming out, do you know? Cause I don't. My point is that they could have plenty of time to go back over it, so lets not all sprang our vaginas over the less than stellar graphics.Except that MGS4 still looks damn good, now Silent Hill 5 looks like it's running on PS2 hardware. Not saying that graphics make a game better, but with a game like this, they sure as hell aren't utilizing the hardware all that well.
ooooohhhh rly?Valve has never and will never let any other company develop a Half-life game. The only time they let a company oversee any part of it was when they left it to EA to produce the PS3 orange box, it turned out to be an unoptimized piece of shit.
Inside Valve, two teams will be responsible for finishing Episodes 1-3, a triumvirate that Newell says will wrap up Half-Life 2's current story arc. Episodes 1 and 2 began development simultaneously by seperate teams; when Episode 1 goes live, its team will shift gears to Episode 3. Episode 4 will have a stand along plot and is being developed outside Valve
I never played origins and I couldn't get into 4, but yea from what I've seen it looks like this game series is indeed close to dying. I don't see why they would want to run it into the ground and kill it considering they've signed up for another movie and have milked the series constantly over the years. Maybe they are developing 6 right now so they decided to outsource 5? Who knows, but who has better judgment than Akira at this point? If he says hes happy with what he sees and that they are being faithful, then its worth at least keeping up with.Konami has a lot of "babies", and lately it seems like they don't give a damn about Silent Hill anymore. In my opinion, 2 was the best, and 3 was the last good one.
It's a HELL of a lot better than the majority of 'scary' movies. I don't know what it is, but almost every scary movie is so ****ing stupid. Is it just me, or does anyone agree?

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced the official title of its first Silent Hill game for PLAYSTATION?3 and Xbox 360. Entitled Silent Hill: Homecoming, the game will be released end of September this year across Europe.
I know you're gonna start going 'but hammer! thats not a real link, just a forum post!" Yes I realize this, but its the best I can find right now, I'm still looking for the interview or piece of news posted somewhere around here...

*Vagina sprang. :dozey:September. It's been about 6 months since the first gameplay videos were released, and those looked gorgeous. In that amount of time, the visuals have regressed back to pretty much PS2 levels. They have 5 months left (unless a delay occurs) to get it right. When Silent Hill 2 was released, it was one of the best looking games on the PS2. That's because Konami put a lot of time and effort into making it a damn good game. If The Collective aren't even going to put any effort into making the engine look halfway decent by today's standards, then what can we expect from the rest of the game?
You got a link of akira commenting on 4 and origins? Not that I don't trust you, I'm just curious. Anyways, I agree with you. Silent hill is one of the most mature and interesting game series around and the shitty movie and arcade shot em up spin offs have ruined the game's track record, so if V doesn't offer anything then who knows. But looking back at the whole series even when team silent was under control there was problems with the camera and combat that they themselves never handled, so at the least maybe team silent will take this system to use in the next one they do. I don't know, I'm just like you..I just really don't want them to f*ck this one up.I guess I'm just disappointed that I've watched one of my favorite series regress into a mediocrity. Akira said the same thing about both 4 and origins, and they barely even touched the brilliance of any of the first 3. Capcom did a good job keeping Resident Evil fresh, so is it wrong to hope that Konami could do the same with Silent Hill? I just don't see it happening with anyone other than Team Silent.
Akira said:Yes, I'm very confident that we've done a good job and that players will be scared by this title. Silent Hill: Origins has some keys to understand the entire world of Silent Hill and the other games. Playing this game will help people better understand those mysteries.
I never played origins, so what was so bad about it? I cant imagine any horror game being better than SH2, its kinda like hl2 for me..you cant touch it. So them trying to compare their efforts to SH2 worries me a little I guess..Scared? Possibly. Good Job? Not anywhere near as good as the first three.
As for 4, I can't seem to find anything in particular where he states his confidence in the project, but back before it was released I remember reading some interviews where that was the case.
Sorry if you all disagree but I found Silent Hill 4 to be the best of the bunch. Sure there were no pyramid heads but sometimes you just have to draw the line and realize you're just being a fanboy. Silent Hill 2 comes in a close 2nd. 1 and 3 I didn't really care for. Perhaps I'm weird.
