The review thread is getting long. I was hoping to start a new thread for everyone to give their tips to becoming a sucessful submariner. I've only played for an hour or so and haven't really gotten the hang of things.

A good tip from the other thread that I saw was the green, yellow, red indicators on the target ship. Thanks to whoever posted it. Red meaning the shot is impossible to make, yellow is risky and green is a good shot. I must have missed this in the manual.

Range under 1000 m seems to be very important. Getting into that position is tough though. I try to point the bow 5 degrees ahead of where the target is going, depending on range and speed. I've had the best luck that way.

After the first shot all the targets seem to make a lot of extra evasive manuvers. When this happens range is even more important and targets are really hard to hit. I try to have two targets ready. The first can be longer range and then I'll quickly move to strike a closer one.

This is all probably common sense to everyone, but like I said I just started playing. Anyone have some helpful tips?

yeah that tip was good, well i just learned that the different coloured ship icons on your map relate to their war status

ie:green-neutral
blue-friendly
silver-undefined
red-enemy

wish i knew this earlier, lol spent 3 hrs chasing a merchant which turned out to be norwegian

also whats the dif between the 2 types or topedo you have in 1939,i just got some of the second type but what is their advantage

There's an impact-only torpedo and a magnetic/impact torpedo. The second one should be better but esp. in 1939 and 1940 there's a bigger chance on duds (unless you turn duds off of course).

yes i 'bought' a few,do you actually buy them or what?i didnt notice my reknown going down so can i 'buy' loads of em

No, the two torps are powered differently, one more reliable but producing a steam cloud on the surface of the water (less chance of hitting, ship will spot it coming and avoid it = you screwed) or go for a risky one, that probably wont hit or get anywhere near but will be less detectable.

Use Deck gun for small merchants, save the torps for warships imo.

I don't have the game yet, but from reading around I've noticed that a common tip is to not fire torpedoes within 300 metres of your target, as they don't have time to arm.
