simple question

alright, Will I be able to play mods in a new steam account if I follow these steps:

1. Create new account (Has no games installed on the whole system)

2. Install source sdk base

3. Install Mod.

Will it Work?

Think you need HL2...or at least one source game...not sure though...

If the mod is based on HL2 then you will need HL2.

what If I have hl2 and ep1 preloaded??

i just tried installing minerva 2, but it does not show up on my steam list despite having them preloaded..

No good having them pre-loaded - they're locked files. The mods use part of the Half-Life 2 game engine files to work and if they're not paid for and active then you're never going to be able to play mods. Out of interest, how come you don't have HL2 on your Steam account?

its actually a very stupid thing. I have all other steam games like cs source, ep1 ect. However, my hl2 was borrowed from a friend and I returned it to him 2 months ago. Now, I cant be bothered to buy the game as I am planning to buy a steam package that includes hl2 once ep2 comes out..

I wouldn't say it was a stupid question - especially since every gamer should really have Half-Life 2 included as their base product. It's included in nearly every package on Steam. I'm sorry to say you just have to wait until you have HL2 again before you start playing mods.

I thought you would get the Source SDK Base when you get any Source game.

if the game requires it then it would download it to steam. i believe lost coast needs it.

lost coast doesnt need it. I have ep1, so my multiplayer mods work. but the only single player mod that is worked for me is "THE awakening"..i wonder why..
