Hello folks, can you tell me if this is a worthwhile idea: (i.e. you would play it or help make it) - HL2 Challenge.
The concept is simple, the player is presented with different scenarios, facing different sets of opponents from HL2. There is a time limit to pass, and players are scored on time spent, health lost, damage done, accuracy, and teammates alive (if present). Top scores can be posted online to see who does best.
The levels are mostly small, or not very complicated if they are large (think fighting a strider in a cityscape, or on a lake chasing something on the hoverboat).
Undecideds:
-Either allow players to choose the time limit (lower = more points) or base it on difficulty
-Either allow players to choose their arsenal (factoring into their score) or base it on difficulty
-Either allow player to choose enemies (the more the higher score) or not (easy = 2 grunts, medium = 4 grunts, hard = 4 grunts and a enemy ship, etc.)
-On the maps where teammates are allowed, either limit them by difficulty or allow as many as possible but factor that against the players score
-Whether scoring is per-map only, per-section only, or both
I like the user-defined options mostly because they add a sense of gambling to it, but scoring would have to be carefully balanced or it could be abused. However, basing these variables off difficulty alone would be easier to balance.
Extras (w/ broader support)
-Ability to upload stats to a server which displays rankings on a website
I'm a programmer, I don't know HL2 but I know C++/C#, ASP.NET & more. I have made maps in Worldcraft and would probably be able to contribute there as well. Most of the hard work needed would be on the mapping and playtesting ends IMO.
Any suggestions, comments, ideas are appreciated.
