Is there a way to convert a single player map to a death match map?

because i wanted to take the first map from sandtraps (the one with the gate and the 3 batteries to open it) and simply add 3 spawn points so some friends and I could build dune buggy ramps and stuff. Wont be for public use or anything.

So any help on how to convert/opening them in hammer would be greatly appreaciated!!

It is possible, but because it involves reverse-engineering a Valve map, there's no way you could legally distribute it.

Well, im only going to give it to 3 people...just in a LAN game to built ramps and what not...But i see your point.

The SP maps are compiled into BSP, which means they're unmodifiable by normal means.

If you were REALLY hardcore and just wanted to change playerstarts it might be possible with some sort of hacking technique.

How does Svenco-op do it then?

There's a program called EntEd that allows you to view/modify the entities in a map. In theory, you could extract the map and rename it, then use EntEd to add a few info_player_deathmatch entities.

I really wouldn't guarantee it working well, though.
