Site turns slow

Anyone else experienced that this message sometimes comes up when you are trying to leave or enter a site:

There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

And this message: "something's got wrong" comes up on the news page once in a while. Has something happend to the server?

Yes. Many a'times.
More often than before. This happens when there is a massive influx of people visiting the site. And as you can see, there are.
The site has become very slow, and as a-matter-of-fact, right before I clicked onto this thread I received the error. :x

having the forum linked to on slashdot main page will have hurt the servers A LOT

we're pretty steady at 860 users.... the site seems to respond quickly, but we're getting these errors...

Normally we should be able to handle a lot more load but the servers need to be looked at.

on the mainpage i keep getting

"something has gone wrong" with no news showing up

a few refreshes usually sorts it out though
