The prequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, will be released on Steam, the only digital dowload distribution platform to carry the game, simultaneously with traditional retail channels. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky brings the players one year prior to the events of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in 2011. A group of stalkers has, for the first time, reached the very heart of the Zone-Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant-and brings about a cataclysm on the brink of a catastrophe. Through a rich narrative and gripping combat action, players uncover new challenges and insights in the Exclusion Zone. A new version of the game engine, X-Ray 1.5, powers superior graphical details and realistic and non-scripted combat AI.
Steam has introduced S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to many thousands of new fans all over the world. We chose to deliver the digital version of the game exclusively on Steam because of its proven success not only as the leading global digital distribution platform for games, but because it allows us to directly reach its integrated and active community of gamers.
More information about the game is available on Clear Sky's Steam page.

Cool, although I don't think I will be buying it. Doesn't look very good.

I'll propably sell myself to get the cash for the collector's edition.

Well, it kinda sucks. Shadow of Chernobyl was good as it was standalone, I didn't have to worry about anything and all mods worked perfectly. Now it is just on Steam, which is stupid. It takes less disc space but you cannot just go around and install it to whatever PC you want, you must have internet connection and Steam and then time to download it from Steam servers. The CD is useless, just like Orange Box CD's that are just to fill the case.

I've VERY exciting by this, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was in many ways the best game of the year, glad to see Clear Sky at least has a digital publisher now.

No, it probably won't just be steam, it's just that they haven't found a publisher for the CD version yet. Only the digital version is going to be exclusive to steam, they will be "launching S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:Clear Sky on Steam on the same day that it?s available in stores worldwide".

I'm gradually working my way through Stalker atm (Just defeated the brain scorcher). Very enjoyable, very atmospheric (I've almost lost control of my bowels a few times, esp in the Labs) and my No 1 FPS recommendation after the Orange Box. This will be a definite purchase :)

Blasphemy!!!!!!

Clear sky looks better than stalker so far, I'll probably me be getting it on steam too

Oh and they ditched THQ, good move, and are publishing it themselves basically.

oh so THQ isn't involved? That's good. Now people in AU might be able to get clear skies.....yet we still can't get the original game

yeah I don't think that will change either, but this could be promising, devs hopefully just say that everybody can have it :D

Where are you guys getting this steam only thing. It says it right there on the main post

"The prequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, will be released on Steam, the only digital dowload distribution platform to carry the game, simultaneously with traditional retail channels."

Valve should just hire these guys (all of the team) and they should move on over to Seattle. :)

Imagine a game as open ended and free feeling as STALKER, with narrated scenes, action and puzzles as finely crafted as Half-Life 2. Yes please.

Stalker was a very enjoyable game. I feel like reinstalling it now.

I hope they can make it a true free form game in the future like they intended (like boiling point or GTA).

I'm down. Stalker was a very good game after some polish (bug fixes, engine enhancements, etc.) Thanks mods! It, to me, had the most memorable environment of any FPS I've played.
