For all of you Skype users, SkypeOut (the service which lets you call to landline or mobile phones) is now free for ANY call made within the US or Canada! Yes, completely free!

This means that now through Skype you can now:

- Call other computers that use Skype for free
- Call all landlines in the US / Canada for free
- Call all cell phones in the US / Canada for free

Obviously, calls made to/within other countries still cost cash.

This "promotion" is going to extend to the end of the year at a minimum (that means you have exactly 230 days to make free calls)... They said they might keep this going into 2007, but nothing is concrete yet.

This is my first time using Skype for real, and it's pretty cool! Calls sound really nice, not a lot of lag (<1 second) and they could hear me fine as well...

So if you haven't tried out Skype, you should test it out :) I won't be cancelling my normal phone anytime soon though...

i knew a Russian lady who would call her mom with Skype in the lab i worked. seemed pretty reliable.

holy crap thats and awesome deal....
Goodbye paying for house phone service...

I haven't had a landline for about two years now. I've always just used my cell. But still, good news for Skype people.

What does it come up as on caller ID? what a perfect way to make prank calls!

That's what I was thinking.

A while back someone found a java website that was for deaf people. It would basically say what you typed over the phone like that. I would order pizzas with it because they could never understand MS sam.

I actually tried it and called myself. I must have talked about 3 minutes. Really neat.

It comes up as Private Name and Private Number.

You can actually pay to have a real phone number on Skype (called SkypeIn), but that costs money.

DreadLord: Yup, I remember that silly thing :) It's by Sprint, at least the one I used. There is actually a real person as the middle-man, so the person on the other side can understand you fine and vice versa.

I am irresistable.
