This isn't some hack article. Nvidia is going to let SLI run on Intel's new X58 chipset coming up. That chipset is for Intel's new Core i7 CPU.

Certified boards will also be required to display an "SLI Certified" logo on their boxes and other marketing materials.

Once a board is certified, Nvidia will provide the board maker with an approval key (called a "cookie") that it must embed in the system BIOS. The combination of this approval key and an X58 chipset will then unlock SLI support in Nvidia's ForceWare driver software.

Intel chipset stability + SLI = win.

I think that this is a great move for nvidia, but I have the feeling that the X58 SLI support could run into the issues that Intel ran into with Skulltrail where if anything should tick nvidia off they will disable sli compatibility with their newer series of cards

Yeah, the driver still has control whether to allow or not. ATM it's based on if the key and chipset are there but they can remove that code at any time this deal goes south.
