I've got this really annoying problem when playing first person shooters and especially with css. The game starts lagging the moment there are new sounds played. Tried to reinstall the drivers etc, but nothing seems to resolves the problem. Any of u guys has an idea what may be causing this problem? Thx

ow here are some specs.

Pentium4 3.0Ghz, Ati radeon 9600xt, 512DDR, Realtek AC97 Audio soundcard.

Actually, I am having the same issue:

I have soundstorm (nforce 2)

9800 pro

amd xp @ 2.5ghz

512 corsair 222-11 @ 400

In levels, when a "new" sound occurs it lags for a second and the harddrive pings...

this leads me to believe one of two things

1. I need to upgrade my memory because there is not enough, although I have hear of others with 512 not having this problem

2. There is an issue with precaching resources, especially for sound

The only other game I have had this problem with is doom 3, and for that i am almost certain that is was lack of memory... but for CS:S i am not so sure

Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this, or perhaps how to change precaching setting in cs:s?

Well,

I bought another stick of ram (1 gig total now) and all my hiccup woes went away. (BH5 for 80 bucks, who's complaining?)

So basically, that is what I recommend you do (512 is getting a little tight on these new games).

Of course, now I have a problem with blue screen crashes/resets in game, but I think that has to do with the memory management of windows/cs:s (swapping between 2 sticks) - hopefully they fix it in a new update (either that or my mem is overclocked too much).
