Also Known As Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Does anyone still play this game? I've been looking for it every where, and luckily found a copy from one of my relatives, BUT, as far as I'm concerned, the game was disconinued, and even more so, EB gives no rate for anyone who trades in a used copy, and if they HAD a used copy, it'd only be about 99 cents, so, out of curiousity, do any of YOU play it?
Or have even heard of it for that matter Oo

There are those that enjoy the game.

Played it a long time ago. Cool, although I was young and never really got into it.

I played it for a while, I was pretty good. Could stand up against three allied AI :D

What's special about it? Isn't it just a civ game more set in the future?

It does so many things so well, intresting factions and leaders. Intresting tech tree, superb terraforming and planetary council options. A good unit designer, even the plot is good.

The plot that is hardly existent. It's so open, I dare even say it has an atmosphere to it. I loved the game when I played it before in like. . . 2002, and I started craving it again, but the only thingI could find was the demo. . . I'm just glad my Uncle had a copy that he had no use for. . . University for life!

Anyways, ahem, yes, the game is awesome, and it's not just a civ game, you also have all the mindworms, and xenofungi, which ASLO evolve, and get larger, and more aggressive later in the game. . . don't even get me started on Planet Busters.

Planet Busters are the most powerfull weapon I have encountered in ANY game :).

I also enjoy the enviromental impact one can have in the game. I remeber playing as University and having this british-sized island as my starting location, as I got more understanding of my surroundings it became clear that the Free Drones had control over the largest continent in the game, and they where chucking things out of their factories with no regard for the enviroment. The result was that sea levels raise and threatening to sink my island, the planetary council only accepted one level of solar shades (which was not enough). So I used my technological advantage and basically turned the free drone continent into an ocean. Good stuff :)

I hate it when they melt the Ice Caps. . . I was a damn military super power, Hive and Spartans left, another planet buster in the works. . . BAM! Half my civ GONE! The last (ONLY) good island, was covered in Fungus and worms, I couldn't do it, I had to shuffle HORDES of hovertanks to that island, with only one boat =_= Pissed me off. . . I hate it, when if you nerve staple out of frustration, or nuke some one after turns of waiting, then EVERYONE gangs up on you. . . Now I know how Korea feels. . . damn economic sanctions. . .

That brings back soo many good memories! :D

lol
That game is like playing the history of Earth, but so much more fun ^^

I love just scotuing around, grabbing supply pods, getting technology and so on. Even the cinemtatics-- ESPECIALLY the cinematics, and quotes, are awesome. It's all about philosophy and the fact that you can go in different directions, like robotics to biology? Epic! I mean, I can have my own 'self-aware' machines, that on its own, just damn! The game is so wide open, and so interesting, like if you have an island for example, you can raise land to make a bridge with a terraformer to get to your enemy, or how they incorporated mountains, and the ecoological effects of different things.

Damn that's a mouthful!

SMAX?!?!!?

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire!?!?!

READ WIKI: It states that Sid Meier wanted to start working on CIV 3, but couldn't because of funding, so he founded Firaxis, and went to make SMAC, it just never caught on as much, and after SMAX, he immediately went back to CIV 3, and eventually CIV 4.

And maybe because they had other things to compete with? Half-Life was still pretty big then, and not many (or not enough) got into SMAC enough for them to keep the project going beyond SMAX, I just started a thread to see if ANYONE ELSE enjoyed SMAC, and even considered discussing the leisurely days of annhililating faction after faction with all kinds of various weapons.

Found this game with Psychonauts, it was the Planetary Pack... comes with Alien Crossfire.

I'm not too into Civ games but I really want to give them a try since there's so many out there.
