I realize that the smark disk failure referres to the hard drive. I was wondering if the logic chip for that was on the motherboard or the hard drive itself, or if it was a combination of the two. The reason I ask is that I have a system that won't get past the Smart Disk Failure screen -F2 does not continue- and I've heard of the error occuring even if the hard drive is good.

Have you tried disabling Smart Disk through the BIOS? or.. heh, as for your actual question, I think it's the hard drive itself

It's a prebuild system with a pretty locked down BIOS so unfortunately I can't disable it there.
