ok i need help whenever i turn on my comp i get the message at the boot screen "Smart failure predicted on maxtor HD, please backup all data a failure may be iminent" thi started happening months ago and still no failure any way to get rid of this i tried disabling smart monitoring in the BIOS but still happens

SMART is a feature on some modern hard drives that monitors hard drives. The main benefit of SMART is that it can detect hard drive failures before they happen.

Now, if SMART is telling you your harddrive is in the process of failing, it might be a good idea to listen to it. ;)

Thing is this has been hapenin since april no sign of hard drive failure any programs i use to check disk condition tell me it is healthy etc...any suggestions.

Is the drive still under warranty?

Send it back for a replacent if it is.

This drive will go bad eventually and it would be wise to back it up while you can.
I have had a drive similar to this and it died a few months later. I had some of the data backed up but not all. Just didn't recognize the drive after that.

Look up the manufacture's website and check if the drive is still under warranty. Generally they need the serial number off of the drive.
If it is, email them and ask if your issue is covered by the warranty and RMA it for a replacement.

k ima downloadin the maxtor diagnostic tool now

EDIT:just downloaded it needs a floppy drive to create a boot disk i aint got one, i phoned the company i got my comp from they are willing to replace the hard-drive and upgrade it to a 140gb HD w00t.
