in a less than brilliant fashion Metal gear solid snake eater had it's source code stolen at e3. Two teens literally jimmied open a display box and ran off with the source code...after what happened with the Source source code theft you'd think game developers would tighten security, but apparently they didnt think someone would just walk up and "take" the code

Whoops!!

That's hard on Konami.

Moved to General Gaming.

LOL, such irony that brute force is used to get a game devoted to silence and stealth.

*EDIT* btw, why did u call it scorce code? have they actually copied HL2 and called it scorce code or did u get that wrong? lol

What is this demo code? And why did Konami have code at e3? Sounds like they stole a demo disk, which isn't a problem.

Source code is the code of the engine, it has nothing to do with the name of the engine, its a technical term for engine code.

Really? i thought HL2 called their engine scource. all of the other games have names for their engines, like the cryengine in far cry. Ive never heard scource code used in conjunction with ANY other game than HL2. maybe its coz the cba to think of a name.

source code isnt just for games...any programming has a "source code" or the original code created by programmers.

Halflife 2's source code is called "Source": Far cry's source code is called "Cryteck" (i think)

but I did confuse "source code" and "demo code"...they could be the same thing, I dont know

Aye, Chewcky. You really had us confused Suicide42. Source code can be for any program. Uncompiled code for anything on a computer is usually referred to that program's source, or source code. Valve calling their engine "Source" is them being clever.

Konami had a demo disc stolen, not any source code. Again, I would be very suprised if any source code was present at e3, because it would be completely unnecessary.

No, Half Life 2's source code is called "Half Life 2's source code", or if you want, "the source code for/of Half Life 2". Same with FarCry. Source and CryEngine are just the fancy names the developers give their compiled engines.

Yea, have to admit they chose a weird name for there engine, but source code = programming code and...source = engine..anyway thats really funny

Oh well if its only a demo disk i dont think it will matter. If anyone stole the source code id be pissed :P. MGS3>HL2!!!! :D:D

Even if the source code to MGS3 was stolen (which it wasn't) it wouldn't be nearly as devastating as the HL2 theft. MGS3 is a PS2 game, it's not like anyone can cheat online (especially seeing as the game doesn't have an online mode, just downloadable extras). If any other developer was ever caught using the source for the game they would be destroyed. At the very worst another developer could look and see how they pulled off those amazing graphics and create something similar.

But all those idiots got was a demo disc. It was either the trailer or that little playable area where they can run around in a very small area and shoot animals (there aren't any guards there). Totally useless.

The bad thing about this is that E3 might not let so many of the public into next years event...

you mean what happend after Doom3. Half life 2's code was stolen over the internet, metal gear soild 3 was phyiscally taken (in person) and a few years ago when the doom 3 alpha started to apear was becuase some one phsyically stole the cd with it on it at an event.

God, that made me laugh. I'd make me laugh even more if the teenagers then evaded security by hiding inside the display box...
