So I have both systems finally and am looking to get this going on both if at all possible. I know there are a bunch of options available, but which ones do you guys use and like? What's your setup and how's it work for you? Thanks!

Well you can't download things onto a DS, so count that out.

And I heard all recently made PSP's don't support emulators.

Dont listen to this guy...
I have friends that are running SNES/NES/GENesis games on both their PSPs and DS'

You just need a card reader and a SD or miniSD card for the DS.
Or some other mods for the PSP.

With PSP it all depends on what firmware version you have, tell me that, and I can easily help you out on the PSP side of things.

Aren't DS cartridges very similar to SmartCards?

Well I've never actually handled or seen one in real life, so I can't judge size, but don't they look almost exactly alike?

I think I remember reading that Smart Cards or something was involved in running roms on your DS.

The PSP is great for emulators. When I first got it I used it almost exclusively as an emulator machine and to play games which ran on old firmware. Then I got tired of that and wanted to play the new PSP games so I upgraded. Even if the firmware version you have can't be downgraded right now, eventually they will crack it.

You gotta have certain firmware to run homebrew on the psp sadly. I used 2.0 for a long time after I learned I couldn't run homebrew and waited for a downgrader. Now I am on 1.5 and using an app call devhook to emulate newer firmwares so I can still play games that require it, but at the moment I mostly use my psp for emulation.

Alright! Thats all good to hear. I have been fooling with it myself and have decided upon a NinjaDS for my emulation on the DS because it is quick and easy and the only hardware you need (besides an sd card).

I just downloaded the new eLoader for PSP called 'eLoader 0.995 'Kriek' from www.noobz.eu and it works like a charm!! I have gotten my old Lucasarts titles all up and running thanks to the ScummVM and this is precisely why I got my PSP in the first place so I am thrilled!

Plus I have fw2.80 and don't have to downgrade anyway, even if there were a downgrader available right now.

What I want to know is what programs specifically you guys find to be the best for NES/SNES emulation on these platforms, esp. PSP....

Oh yeah, I forgot about the eloaders. I used them when I was on 2.0. Only a few more obscure things won't work with them, I only downgraded because I wasn't getting much use out of my psp anyway.

I use snes9xTYL 0.4.2 for snes emulation. It is as close as you can get to full speed on the psp as far as I know, almost all games will run great but some might give you trouble. You will have to get the user-mode version of it using an eloader.

NesterJ 1.20beta2 for NES though a newer one may have been released.

DGEN 1.60 for genisis, there is another one out there some people seem to prefer but this one seems to be the best.

gpSP is pretty much the only option if you want to do GBA emulation on the psp with any kind of speed. The sound could use some work but most games run great. Other gba emulators can only get around 4 fps.

C64psp is great if you like c64 games, can be a bit of a hassle to get the games controls working, but even pc emulators have this problem.

There are tons more out there but those are the ones I use the most. I am not sure all of the work with the eloaders but I think most will.

Sainku does it again! Thanks! That is the sort of information I was looking for and I can't wait to try it out when I get home! You just put the eBoot files in the /PSP/Game/ folder, right? Do the ROMs go there as well or does that matter?

Also, do you know if just by playing newer games they automatically upgrade your firmware version or is that something that has to be done online?

I have an SD card on my digital camera... How much did you say a NinjaDS costs?

Also, is it possible to use the Ninja DS to display pictures and play videos on the DS?

Most apps for the psp will have two folders. Using snes9x for an example one will be called "snes9xTYL" and the other "snes9xTYL%". All you have to do is place both folders in your /psp/game folder. From what I remember you would then just run the eloader and the program should show up in the list. Most emulators will let you select what folder to load roms from. I have a roms folder for each seperate emulator, but I guess you could just make one giant roms folder and dump them all in there as well.

Most games that require a newer firmware will have it on the disc, it isn't automatic though you have to go to "update to firmware x.xx" under the games menu. Other than that is has to be done online through wifi or put on the memory stick.

Extremely helpful. Thanks! Now just to see if they work with this eLoader...

I'll post results ragardless of whether they are positive or negative.

I noticed that you said you have firmware version 2.80 but I just wanted to let you know that if you dont have a TA-82 motherboard and a firmware less than 2.80 (for now) you can upgrade your firmware to a "custom firmware" which will allow you to be on firmware 2.71 and be able to launch homebrew and emulators straight from the Game ---> Memory Stick icon and also lets you play your legal backups :naughty: from the Game menu also just as if it was a UMD. I would recommend this to anyone that has a PSP.

2.71 SEB (thankyou Dark Alex) is the current winner situation for all non TA-082 users. Otherwise use eloader. In anycase it's all good.

can someone explain how to do something equivalent using a Nintendo DS and Ninja DS?

It should be as simple as dropping the emulators for the DS and the roms onto an SD card, putting that in the NinjaDS and loading it up. Its that simple for the ScummVM, so I imagine it'll be the same for whatever emus you use. I have yet to get mine in the mail, but it should be here any day now. I will let you know what works and what doesn't whenever I get it.
