Does anyone here snowboard? I have went once or twice and the snow sucked (very hard and icy) so I killed myself and I don't have good memories. But I've seen others snowboard on powdery soft snow and it looks very fun, plus it looks more suitable for half-pipes and stunts. I mostly ski, which I'm pretty good at but find boring now. So, can anybody tell me how hard snowboarding is to pick up and any boards/bindings/boots you recommend (under $300 if possible - I'm a newb and not with a big budget)? Thanks in advance.

I went to the snow, but ended up looking for my dog. She sniffed the snow like it was cocaine....then got a cold on the way home. But that was my only time at the snow. I havn't been snowboarded yet but it is something i want to do

If you're bored with skiing switch to telemarking. That's what I did and it's a blast.

its not that i'm bored - i want to try something new. nothing gives you a rush like telemarketing that's for sure but i don't think i'm ready for it yet.

I saw a video of a guy that made a pneumatic gas powered pogo stick. He went about 10 feet in the air each jump

I just realized what a mistake I made by posting a questione regarding sports in a video game forum, although i expected a lot of you to particpate in winter sports - they're awesome!

Huh? I'm sure lots of people snowboard/ski here. Just wait a while and someone might know of some good equipment. I would have helped you out, but like I said I don't snowboard so I really have no clue about equipment for it.

I snowboard and its pretty sweet. A great rush and tonnes of fun when you get past the falling on your ass part of it haha

Since I don't live in Canada, I'm not really sure about what deals you can get over here. But the sales are all off now, and I expect that where ever you go the equipment will be expensive. I plan on buying a new board soon because I'm hopefully going snowboarding in february, (Got some vouchers for Christmas :D) but that'l probably cost more than $300.

Anyway, it really isn't that hard to learn. Though, I had a bit of an advantage because I used to skateboard so I had my balance sorted out pretty well...Although certain things work the opposite way on a snowboard :x I was riding down the black slopes my first time, so its not that difficult (Ok, so admitedly I went on the black slope by accident :p But then afterwards that gave me more confidence to try again)

I prefer skiing. I just got me a new pair of skies! yay!

I prefer skiing since it's much harder to master, you don't ruin the hills by "plowing" down black slopes (I see that ALOT). And carving skiis are just so much fun.

Plowing :( I don't "plow" down the side of the mountains.

I don't doubt that its harder to learn...at least, the basics of it. Doing tricks is something else. Skiers are just as annoying, because you leave those stupid lumps everywhere you turn.

What I call "plowing" Is when you keep the board accross the hill and slowly glide downwards, exposing the ice underneath, AND making those lumps you talk about, making it EXTREAMLY hard to skii normally.

If you CAN ski with carvinskies, you create virtually no lumps, if you use the "normal" older skies, which are straight, you create lumps, since with them you force the ski into a turn, plowing the snow into a lump, but with carvins skies, you just lean and then you turn because the sides of the ski are shaped like a semi circle (. This makes you turn by just leaning. Same principle with a snowboard, except there is only just one "ski". This idea came from snowboards :p

thanks for your replies guys. i'm probably going to get a burton snowboard, bindings and boots for $200-300 Cdn.

There called moguls and have tried skiing on the moguls snowboarders leave? Truly horid. :p

Generally I think snowboarding it easier to pick up, but both sports take a long time to master.
