I have heard a lot of good things about this game and I really liked dawn of war. But I am getting fed up with the traditional RTS genre as a whole, I prefer as little base building as possible and most RTS games have a way to simplistic combat model for me. So what new things does company of heroes bring to the table?

It's Dawn of World War II. Everything you liked about DoW and everything you didn't shoehorned into a WW2 setting.

I'd recommend World In Conflict. It's made by Remedy, the people behind Ground Control. It has zero base building and is all about unit management.

Personally i now choose World In Conflict over Company Of Heroes...BUT in Multiplayer only.

CoH is quite simply an awesome game though. CoH DOES have a bit of base building, but it doesnt take long to get into the action.

World In Conflict has 100% no building, you just call in units that get airdropped onto the field and you gain purchase points over time.

But omg the artillery in CoH is just...sexmatic.

I have played World in Conlifct and overall I liked it, with the exception of the amount of vehicles compared to infantry that is fielded and the lack of gameplay differences between the USA and USSR.

To be honest youd be mad to miss out on either game, just get both :P

There is a big difference between Axis & Allies in Company of Heroes. And the commander trees even add to the diversity of gameplay. I'd say get it. It wasn't a GOTY for nothing.

WiC = total crap why play a game where all you do is micro when the micro itsels blows balls

CoH = hands down best RTS of all time and thats coming from a RA2 top 5 ladder player

I have it, and while I love RTS games, I only give it an 8/10. It's really great and all, but the damn infantry units can't hit shit past 10 feet, even if the enemy is in the open.

WiC is probably the best fast-paced RTS I've played in awhile.
I'm considering buying it after playing the immensely fun demo.

It pales in comparison to CoH in terms of strategy though.

WiC is fairly bad, the infantry are useless, all you need are tons of Heavy Tanks or tons of heavy copters to win

I feel bad that I stopped playing Company of Heroes only a few days after release. Sigh.

I liked CoH until they patched in the expansion. I'm sure playing as the new teams is great, but for everyone who can't for some reason it's a huge slap in the face. I didn't want to believe it at first, but after playing a good number of games against the british/panzer elite, I couldn't see any other conclusion than they were ****ing overpowered. Even the people playing as them confirmed it when I teased them about it. Ridiculous...

I seem to always lie to myself and say that I would enjoy playing an rts. Then I go and buy the rts game, bring it home, play it and then sit their confused as to why I bought this game. I am a despiser of rts but I am in complete denial of it. That being said, I loved CoH.

Even though I never beat the campaign but that is because I have gaming a.d.d. There is a plethora of games that I at least enjoyed but have not finished.

I'm a bit like that. I have CoH, Civilization IV and C&C 1st Decade sitting on my shelf, all of which I paid full price for, and none of which get much playtime at all anymore.

I actually have alot more fun lanning them with friends. That way you avoid the bullshittery of thousands of pimply little shits who've already mastered every intricacy of the game from top to bottom and don't even give you ****ing chance. And, failing that, atleast you get to abuse them for it in person.

Because it sucked tbh. Nevermind that it was yet ANOTHER WW2 game, but it really wasn't as awesome as it could have been.

I don't play CoH all that much because of the horrendous load times.
It takes me atleast 3/4 minutes to load a single map.

Various reviewers, countless of players and a half a dozen of goty awards would disagree with you. So,your comment=invalid.

Anyway, multiplayer is where the game truly shines.
Co-op especially.Base building is minimal in this game.
The game mainly focuses on capturing and protecting resource points.
It requires a lot of strategy to defend these points though.
Just sitting there with the same old units will easily get your ass blown to oblivion.Seeing bits and pieces of soldiers fly around is quite amusing.
Even if it's your units on the receiving end.
Just try the demo out and see for yourself.

i played in the beta, and unless they changed it it sucked, the idea of an RTS where you dont make buildings and use all your time focusing on microing your units is indeed a AWESOME idea, i was so hyped about the game. but once you play it and realize how limited the micro is.... it really let me down

This is exactly why CoH is the best RTS ever. It promotes constant fighitng because the points all over the map are how you get your money. No building your bases and amassing our forces for one final showdown. Ive been getting owned hardcore (500 to 10 once) and came back 0 to 10. Dont get me wrong there are still points in the game (especially with experienced players) where a mistake could put you behind and you know that he will get that track or that puma out before you can do anything about it. One superbly microd unit can turn the game around completley.

Another thing is after playing games like command and conquer you get used to having 1000 tanks and no infantry, this game uses infantry AMAZINGLY, the cover system is awesome. Sticky bombs cause engine damage so the tank cant move as fast giving other tanks the advantage, REAR shots do more damage. all theese small things are what makes the micro just INCREDIBLE.

Back in the days of RA2 if you were outtanked you were pretty much done for, unless you had leet mag juggling skills (i almost want to say i invented the mag juggle) in CoH guy had a tiger tank and a stug vs just my pershing and 1 squad of rigles but because of my leet micro i forced his tiger tank to put the finsihing blow on the stug and then danced around the tiger until it was gone turning the game around in my favor its the little stuff like this that makes the game.

I fail to see what could make COH all that much better. It's already pretty much a perfect game. Definitely my favorite RTS (aside from Starcraft which is impossible to unseat).
