So how are supposed to know if our game is patched?

Would it kill them to just put version number in one corner of our main menus so we know whether our game has been updated or not! :O

If you enable the console, you can type VERSION and get version information. However, I'm not even sure if they bothered to change THAT with the patch. I certainly can't tell if mine updated or not - saw NOTHING indicated it did...

I was thinking the same thing. :/ I fired up Steam, tried the game and as far as I can see, absolutely nothing has changed, for better or worse. No idea if I'm patched.

edit - Last entry in the update news remains August 26th...

Version info I get:

Protocol version 6
Exe version 1.0.1.0 (valve)
Exe build: 12:18:31 Nov 2 2004 (2187)

Oh, and I think my performance is worse...only indication for me that it might have patched... Either that, or it just got randomly worse... I really don't know. (Worse being MORE stutters, slightly longer loading times, some staticy sound that wasn't there before, and more sluggish framerate in general.)

i'm not sure if i'm right.
bring up steam panel, select play game, right click on "half-life2" then choose "Update News"
There bring up a window showing change history.

Full Change History:
[-] August 26, 2004 (current release) <-----here mentioned i assumed that mine is updated.

Changes/Additions
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Made available for pre-load

jackripp,
Thats what mine says also,
I took that as just saying "you have the most current release as of August 26, 2004 and the only changes additions so far were...made available for pre-load"

Uhhh...its November 24, 2004,
so am i to assume i'm not patched?

Love the game, HATE STEAM!

Version info i get is.

Protocol version 6
Exe version 1.0.1.0 (valve)
Exe build: 12:18:31 Nov 2 2004 (2187)

Same as posted above.

So EXACTLY where is this mat_forcemanagedtextureintohar dware setting at that i'm reading about in the patch threads?

Ahaaa. Well, if it's any indication, I do have the patch. If you have the console enabled, bring it down. (Enabling console is available in the Keyboard Advanced menu.)

Then start typing "mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware" - you don't have to type all of it. According to a post I read, it's a brand new cvar, so only patched versions should show it. (I'm not certain this is correct however.) It does show up on mine. So it must have patched without my knowledge (hence the performance decrease).

That doesn't mean you're not patched, just thec ompile date of (I assume) hl2.exe. Texture stuff must be in a dll or something.

Well, I don't have the patch then. ( Scowls at Steam )
And from what I've been reading - I'm not sure whether I want it. o_O
Tried restarting Steam several times this morning, have received nothing apart from another set of validations (yeah, thanks for that.)

Well, i have the mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0 in my console.

So I can "assume " im patched?

With my version dated November 2, 2004?

And steam monitor dated August 26, 2004?

What in the heck is going on here?

Man, the guys with the warez versions arent working this hard!

I dunno. I tried setting it (the "mat_forcetextureintohardware") to 1, and it seemed slightly smoother (still stuttered though), but I read for nVidia they disabled it on purpose for some reason at this point, and since I'm using an nVidia card, I thought I better disable it again. Besides, I don't think I should have to play with a bunch of settings I don't really understand to get the game to work properly.

] version
Protocol version 6
Exe version 1.0.1.0 (valve)
Exe build: 12:18:31 Nov 2 2004 (2187)

Looks like our update isn't really an update at all...unless Valve has one messed up calendar...

Why not make it simple....

Steam Update window should say...

Game - Half Life 2
Current version - xxxxx
Your version - xxxxxx
Last update installed - xxxxx

Would you like to install/uninstall the updates for your game that contains the following fixes?
Update version - xxx - contains xxxx fixes
OR
You current version is UP-TO-DATE , there are no updates for your software.

Man!
I bet if Valve sees this post they will think i'm a genius! LOL

I agree completely. Updates should always tell you when they install and what they fix. I mean...hell, it took me...what...an hour to find something on the FORUMS to indicate the thing really installed? Something's nutty with that.

snd_async_fullyasync 0
snd_mixahead 0.1
sv_forcepreload 0
cl_forcepreload 0

Apparently setting these values helps. It made it stop stuttering for me anyways... apparently everyone's got their own home remedies. I would be happy about this normally except that my game still locks up and freezes my entire computer to the point where the only option is to reset or turn it off. It does this anywhere from 5-20 minutes.. sometimes more... sometimes less... I Don't know why. I used to think it was just the stuttering in some advanced form but now I see it's something else that's probably specific to my computer. It would also be nice if Valve would take the extra 10 seconds to make the patch reset the game's value's properly.

What would also be nice is to give us the option to uninstall patches if the make problems far worse.
