Ok, So I decided to remove my SB Live 5.1 and use my onboard sound, just for kicks... I uninstalled my old drivers for the card and installed my onboard drivers. Rebooted the computer and restarted steam. For me stuttering always occured right as your about to leave the trainstation. (when breen is talking) (the map is d1_trainstaion_02) Well guess what.... no stutter....at all... I don't understand it, I mean how is this possible? My computer is acutally running Half life 2 like its suppose to? I know everyone has tried everything but maybe those who are using sound cards can remove them and use onboard sound... Just a thought. Anywas if anyone wants to try what I did, please post your results!

Game tested at HIGH visual quality, NO vsync, everything is maxxed, no command line addons to impove game (command line reads as "E:\Games\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\*******\half-life 2\hl2.exe" -novideo -console -heapsize 129000

My specs:

Dell 8300
P4 3.2GHz
SB Live 5.1 (Removed and uninstalled drivers)
200 GB HD
1GB of ram
X800 Pro flashed to the XT PE

I dunno, I have mine set at 512MB, which is half my RAM. I usually think of memory sizes in powers of two, so eh. I'm thinking too logically for the situation :p

I have a custom built computer, and with i just used the on board soundcard, however still got the stuttering problem.

I thought we all knew one of the main causes of stuttering was using two sound cards at once (onboard + other). Why don't you try putting your card back in and disabling onboard sound in the BIOS?

I didn't have onboard installed at the time of the SB being in the PC

Anyone remember my post about Creative sucking and my own stuttering problem before I used onboard sound? :naughty:
[SARCASM]Told you so![/SARCASM]

The root of this problem has to deal with video cards. I had no sound stuttering with my Nvidia GeForce Mx 420 64mb. When I installed the ATI 9600se 128mb, I began getting sound stutter issues. There must be some conflict between soundcard and videocard.

Maybe, my stuttering problem went away completely just by lowering the sound quality. It could just be conflicting with use of CPU (in transfering info to the graphics/sound cards).

wow, one other person, this time who is capable of operating a computer system, has a problem, sounds like they should recall every product they ever made...

/sarcasm:rolleyes:

This issue is obviously due to conflicts and slot placed sound and video cards. The more powerful the video card and sound card, the more stuttering.

Not to mention IRQ conflicts, as well as Creative's nifty way of utilizing the hell outta your system resources even when the sound card itself isn't being utilized at all for audio playback or recording.

256megs is not equal to 256000bits...
256megs is equal to 262144bits...

I have removed my Live!5.1 a long ago and still getting same stuttering...
