So I have Half Life 2 : Deathmatch and cant install mods....Help!

Ok So I only have Half Life 2 : Deathmatch and not the single player mode.

I tried installing various mods and the only one that works is Half Life 2 : CTF beta.

Whats wrong?

You only have Deathmatch? It is the free one that you get if you have an ATI card? If so you probably don't have the "Source SDK Base" - to check start Steam and go to the Tools tab.

However given that you don't have HL2 I doubt you have the Source SDK so you will not be able to play HL2 Mods.

No but providing he used the same account to buy the Orange Box he can gift you his new one. Get him to go to Steam, the Game menu option -> Manage gifts & guest passes, he should have a gift HL2 to give to whoever he wants. Once he gives that to you you'll will have HL2 and then can play Mods just fine.
