So i just bought Far Cry...

It really is what i expected, an amazingly average game rapped in nice (although troublesome) graphics.

I haven't yet tried the multiplayer, as i couldn't create an account for some reason.

I opened up sandbox, and for the life of my i can't work out how to paint textures. I suppose i should look at any help files that are around. Half the reason i bought the game was to play with some physics while i wait for Hl2.

I tried the editor as well, and it wasn't as easy as I expected. But if you want to play around with physics, this is the best way to do it. In game there is not that much to have fun with...

nooooo!!! enough with the far cry threads already!! scince the game came out this must be the 10th one. most people just repeat what theyve said before aswell, so i will do so now.

far cry moments
tbh, i wasnt going to get the game. but now i am. why? because i played sulkdodds' copy, and i played untill just after the carrier. but during that part i was astounded at how ignorant i had been of thinking the game was average. everything shines, the enemies realistically react to you and the game plays and feels AMAZING. it is truly an astounding game and im ordering it from amazon.co.uk today. i can finally understand what sulk was on about now!

far cry- what am i missing?
spiffae, that is EXACTLY how i felt about the game. i wasnt going to buy it, but i played sulkdodds copy today and i must say it gets better the more you play it. When i played the demo (and a level on my other mates PC who had the graphics on low) i wasnt impressed at all, and i felt it was just another random shooter.

But after playing the game a bit i realised that its not at all that bad. im thinking of getting it (im still not that sure) but its definately much better than my first impressions.

Metroid prime and Halo are one of my favorite FPS ever. They both have the balance perfect between shock and agression, like when you run across the ghosts in MP, the music quietens and the room goes so dark, then they jump out at yoiu and your left thinking "WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY??? ARRRGHH!!!"

far cry vs. UT2004
i absolutely adore UT2004, as i am more of a MP gamer than SP. i like far cry, but tbh it doesnt offer me alot apart from good graphics and big enviroments. im still considering wether to get it or not. UT2004, however, is exacty what games are meant to be... fun, fun! FUN! plus, you can still have a fun night 'out' with m8s....
plus, theres a cool SP mode in UT2004 where you build a team out of mercinaries, getting money and winning tornimants. and it has gr8 ai apparantly.

Far cry to be DvD
i just play DvDs on my PC. i will NEVER buy a video again once DvD recorders come out. cheaper. a lot cheaper. for free. I dont know y ppl dont release DvD versions of games anyway- if it is a new game that has high graphical needs then a PC that can play the game WILL have a dvd player. they are standard issue now

Once you learn how to put in entities and paint textures as well as terrain it gets really easy. Doing stuff doesn't take very long at all.
When adding textures make sure you deselect the checkbox that autoapplies them, then you can use the texture painter to paint that texture.

3-Go back to the game and type exactly the same password in capital and small letters (EXACTLY THE SAME)

i must say, i love far cry ... but i don't play with the physics to much. but one part that's really cool, that i found out by accident... anything that is hanging from a chain can be shot down. like for example, at the end of the carrier level... there's a bridge up top(where you fight the chopper and all the mercs... if you can get mercs onto the bridge, all you have to do is shoot the chains suspending the bridge and the bridge and mercs fall ... fun stuff.) but! as far as physics go, i much prefer DX: IW. i've spent hours in that game just throwing things at people, or throwing people at people. fun! i have some screens of people in sexual positions too.

Yeah the farcry editor confused me at first. I thought it was broken, but it turns out you have to start a new map for the perspective to be started.
I've got the textures and such figured out, but now I'm trying to find a better way to apply foliage and objects... I can apply a thick group of trees, but not a realistically spaced set of trees... unless I have to do it one by one?

I agree... a pretty average game, with some very nice visuals. I'll play through it, but it's no half-life 2... and Jack's voice actor is TERRIBLE!

Well, Sparrow, I'm sorry you didn't like it. Some people just don't enjoy the game, adn if they don't enjoy it there's no point playing it. As for the editor there are almost no decen tutorials online however if you are on the internet the editor has a built-in help option which you can only use online but is very useful.

Also, I seem to have started a groundswell of Far Cry threads. My original purpose with the FC moments thread was to get people talking about what is imo a brilliant game but it seems to have worked all too well.

Well, ive been playing a bit more and im really starting to get into the game.

I pretty much worked out everything about the editor...except those annoying textures. I really don't know how to do it. Ive placed buildings, people, scripts and missions. But they are still alll running around on "Replace Me"

replace me is the detail texture, go into the properties and select a detail texture.

FarCry actually has a pretty good story with many plot twists, I love it. In addition the graphic quality and the entire engine is nothing short of amazing. However, the voice acting as metioned is horrible, I'm guessing because it was developed in Germany and might of actually came out in German first.

yah i loved farcry as well. great gameplay. Im a graphics whore as well so I was hooked when i saw the 'outdoors' for the first time.

tbh, although im getting the game soon from amazon and im definetly sure ill enjoy it, the actual gameplay of far cry is pretty average, it just has amazing phisics and graphics. i belive they could have done so much more with the engine than what they have done- maybe made the SP a bit mre in-depth, longer and with more to do. mind you, i havent actually played more than 20% of the game yet.

but the point remains that i dont think that far cry has excellent / origonal gameplay... but it sure as hell makes up for it with the amazing visuals and phisics.
