i got a free official xbox & ps2 demo disc from work today and i couldn't wait to try killzone [nothing else good on the 2 discs].

i'm incredibly impressed. it's starting to impeach upon my halo2 'fanism'

the graphics, very good, i was 'amazed' considering it was on the ps2, but i guess i've always looked down on the ps2's visual ability.

the demo took about 5 minutes, and had no story, you could just choose between 3 the characters [i chose templar or whatever his name is :X] and you ran around in a destroyed urban city, and ought off some guys and a dropship with your 2 team mates.

controlling was hard to get used, considering i haven't picked up my ps2 since the days of ff x but i got the hang of it really quick.

i like the realism of it, watching the screen 'turn' as i reloaded was cool.

so the bottom line is, i'm going out to buy it tomorrow or on saturday. this is the first time i've bought something for my ps2 since ff x.

Is this the same as the PC demo that was out a while back?

I dont think killzone is on the PC. Its a PS2 exclusive I think.

PS2 exclusive so far, maybe your thinking about Killswitch.

Does anyone here own this game, if so, what do you think of SP ? [I asked this before in some other thread but I can't find it]

I have played the full version of Killzone and I'm impressed as well.

I haven't completed the SP yet (currently at level 9 IIRC), but so far it's very good. At first, you play as Templar (the guy you play as in the Trench level. He is an all-around guy, expert at using ISA weapons) but further into the game you unlock 3 other characters as well. Luger (The stealth character, she also have a knife which is so cool, and a sub-machine gun with a silencer), Rico (The heavy weapons character, he has a very nice machinegun which is some of the most badass weapons I've seen ;)) and Hakha (The Spy, he's half Helghast and half human. He can sneak into some of the Helghast bases without being detected, and same as Luger, he has a knife. He’s also expert at using Helghast weapons).
After you completed one level (not the sub-levels, but the whole level), you can choose to play as another character if you wish.

Some of the levels in the SP are very nice. Although the first maps are pretty short (each level has 3-4 sub-levels in it, some of them can take 5-10 minutes complete while others can take a lot longer like 20-30 minutes), further into the game the maps gets a lot longer and the enemies gets smarter and tougher.

I'm playing on easy (Yeah, I know :cat:), but even on that difficult-level the game is pretty hard. So I recommend that you play the game on easy or normal. Don't get into hard if you don't want to be ass raped. ;)

how's the story so far ? in the ign review they said the base was there, they just needed to expand more.

also, gameplay wise, do you 'control' any squad members ?

does it get choppy/laggy in any parts ?

and, are there many cutscenes ?

;)

IMO KILLZONE looks very cool

but I think it get bad reviews especially for the fact that was called "Halo killer" but IMO it looks more original and interesting that Halo1/2

I cant wait to play it! it looks so cool!

So far it's pretty good. It gets more interesting further and further into the game IMO.

No, they just follow you. They are however pretty smart, but sometimes they are dumb (luckily it doesn’t happen much).

does it get choppy/laggy in any parts ?

Well, it isn't 60FPS, but it is stable. I haven't seen any laggy area yet.

and, are there many cutscenes ?

There are maybe around 1-3 cut scenes at each level. They are pretty short though, so no MGS here. ;)

Some screens for your viewing pleasure. ;)

Killz.jpg

This is the dock-level. One of the best (and it’s very beautiful) levels in the game.

Killz2.jpg

Saving Private Ryan-style, expect this time you are defending. :)

Killz3.jpg

Dictator Scolar Visari.

Killz4.jpg

Rico and Hakha babbling. :)

:o thanks, i'm definently getting this . . today [it's 4:30am].

I still demand a PC version (with better graphics of course)!

Its far from a Halo killer, and it takes off design from Iron Storm, or Red Storm, that WWI "if" FPS Shooter.

"plus teh omg it takes from UT!!1" /sarcasm

You can demand all you want but there is almost no chance Sony will port it.

It looks very promising, even if it`s not the revolutionary title it was going to be, it sure has potential to be a great shooter experience (like Riddick or Doom 3).

I might rent it the next time I'm over my mom's (with no PC) for a while, after I get bored of San Andreas.

Bah....I'm a sad panda now... ;( Well...someone can make a killzone style mod for hl2! :D

lol I sense racial tension in that last pic. I read the EGM review and they gave it 7 7 8, if anyone is intrested..

mmm... my gf's getting it as an early xmas present for me, should be playing it over the thanksgiving break, assuming i've beaten HL2, good either way though

ehhh. I didn't dig it too much. It's not anything special. Slightly above average.

Overall, I think it's getting about the reviews it deserves. IMO, not on par with Halo or Metroid Prime..it's not that close either.

I think you can blame the PS2 for a lot of things. It begs to have 5.1 surround and that would make such a huge difference in gameplay....I love surround in fps. And there is quite a bit of slowdown in certain areas....PS2 really doesn't do this game justice.

Honestly...the game would have been much better on the XBox or as a PC title.

Yup, I would've loved to see this on PC running flawlessly.

I'm trying to find a Collectors Edition, so I don't have it yet :X

The most important thing is that the missions are completely different if you choose a different character. If you choose the "female Sam Fisher" Ruger, doors are sometimes blocked and you have to climb up, find different ways and provide sniper cover and crouch through narrow passages.

Killzone is a very nicely done game and the visual quality is very nice aswell. Sometimes you can't believe it's the PS2 you are playing it on.
