I was wondering if anyone here makes podcasts or knows a lot about them. My friend and I are looking to add a weekly podcast to our website to boost traffic/interaction, so I've just started researching it.

We're both good with software (I'm a CS major, she's an IT major) but we don't want anything too complicated because we have staff members who know very little about computers and can barely use ventrilo as it is. Honestly, something like vent would rock, but it saves too low quality to use iirc.

In addition to the raw recording, what about software to edit it with?

as for free software that I use

i use audacity

it's a powerful free tool for audio editing

don't know if I could get things done without it

give it a shot. there are absolutely no bells and whistles to it, it just does the job. So don't expect to be held by the hand but it's actually quite simple to use

if you want to compress to MP3 with it, you need to download lame as well. it's very straightforward

install audacity and check it out.

if you get an audio clip and click to compress to MP3 it will ask you to locate lame on your computer, so just open lame and from then on you can compress to MP3's as well. If you move lame to a different folder/location, you will have to locate it again next time you want to convert to MP3, so put it in the right spot the first time.

Hmm I'll try Audacity out. Thanks for the suggestion. I wish more podcasts said what software they used, googling this is spyware heaven and/or crappy quality.
